Season of Discovery Phase 2 introduces seven new Runes tailored for Mages, each enhancing their magical prowess in unique ways. Below, we provide a comprehensive guide to acquiring these Runes and their respective locations.
1. Spellfrost Bolt Rune:
Description: Launches a bolt of spellfrost at the enemy, dealing damage and slowing movement speed for 9 seconds.
Location: Outside Zul’Gurub in Stranglethorn Vale, farm Skullsplitter Mystics for Spell Notes: PELFRB STOLLOTS. Decrypt these notes using a Comprehension Charm, available from Reagent vendors in capital cities.
2. Frostfire Bolt Rune:
Description: Launches a bolt of frostfire at the enemy, dealing damage and slowing movement speed while causing additional damage over time.
Location: Same as Spellfrost Bolt Rune, farm Skullsplitter Mystics for Spell Notes: TROFF IRESTBOL. Decrypt them using a Comprehension Charm.
3. Hot Streak Rune:
Description: Grants an instant cast Pyroblast after scoring 2 consecutive non-periodic spell criticals with specific spells.
Location: In Alterac Mountains, farm Syndicate Thief until one drops a Singed Note. Head to Strahnbrad’s Blacksmith Forge, set the bellows on fire with an AOE spell to summon an Ancient Fire Elemental, defeat it, and loot Spell Notes: Hot Streak.
4. Missile Barrage Rune:
Description: Provides a chance to reduce the channeled duration and mana cost of Arcane Missiles while increasing its frequency.
Location: Speak with the Dalaran Agent at Ariden’s Camp in Deadwind Pass to obtain Ariden’s Sigil. Use it to reveal and defeat seven Dark Rider Elites, each dropping a different Dalaran Relic. Collect all relics and return to the Dalaran Agent for the Supply Bag containing the Rune.
5. Brain Freeze Rune:
Description: Grants a chance for Frost damage spells to trigger an instant cast Fireball, Spellfrost Bolt, or Frostfire Bolt.
Location: Accept and complete the Highway Robbery quest northwest of the Kodo Graveyard in Desolace. Follow the questline to obtain Illari’s Key and unlock Illari’s Loot Cache for the Jewel-Encrusted Box containing the Rune.
6. Spell Power Rune:
Description: Increases the critical strike damage bonus of all spells by 50%.
Location: Collect 20 books from various locations including Alterac Mountains, Arathi Highlands, Badlands, Desolace, Dustwallow Marsh, Stranglethorn Vale, Swamp of Sorrows, and Thousand Needles. Turn them in to Garon Wendell, the Librarian in the Mage Quarter of Stormwind City, to learn the Rune.
7. Chronostatic Preservation Rune:
Description: Heals a friendly target and stores chronomantic energy for future use.
Location: Defeat specific mobs in Thousand Needles with frost spells to obtain Partial Spell Notes. Combine them to receive the Rune.
