What the Great Vault actually is
The Great Vault is World of Warcraft's weekly reward system. Once per reset you visit the vault in your faction hub and choose one item from a list of options you unlocked during the week. The more activities you complete, the more options you see, but you still only keep a single reward, so the real skill is making sure your best possible item shows up as a choice.
The vault has three reward tracks, and each track can show up to three options. That gives a maximum of nine items to choose from before you lock in your pick.
The three tracks and how you unlock slots
Mythic+ dungeons
Running timed and untimed Mythic+ keystones fills the dungeon track. You unlock one option after 1 dungeon, a second after 4, and a third after 8 dungeons in a single week. The item level of each reward is based on the keystone levels you completed, with your highest keys counting first. Pushing a few high keys early in the week is the most reliable way to get top-end loot here.
Raid bosses
Killing raid bosses fills the raid track. You unlock options after 2, 4, and 6 boss kills. Difficulty matters: a Heroic kill rewards Heroic-level gear in the slot, and a Mythic kill rewards Mythic-level gear. Because progression raids hand out kills naturally, most raiders fill at least two raid slots without extra effort.
PvP
Earning Honor in rated and unrated PvP fills the third track. The item level of PvP vault rewards scales with your rating, so the same Honor total gives better gear to higher-rated players. Slots unlock at 1,250, 2,500, and 5,000 Honor for the week.
How to fill all nine slots efficiently
- Front-load your hardest content. Your highest Mythic+ keys and toughest raid kills set the item level, so do them while you have energy and a good group, not as a last-minute scramble.
- Mix tracks if you can. Filling three Mythic+, three raid, and three PvP slots gives you nine different chances at an upgrade for a slot you actually need.
- Don't ignore low-effort slots. Even one PvP slot or one extra dungeon can roll the trinket or weapon you've been missing.
- Plan around your class's wishlist. The vault is most valuable when it covers slots that other sources rarely drop.
When a boost makes sense
Hitting 8 Mythic+ dungeons at a high key level, or clearing six raid bosses on Heroic or Mythic, is a real time and skill commitment. If your week is short or your group keeps falling apart, a Mythic+ boost or raid clear is the fastest way to guarantee all three slots in a track unlock at the item level you want. A reputable service runs the keys or kills with you, so the vault options appear on your next reset exactly as if you'd done the runs yourself.
Bottom line
The Great Vault rewards consistency, not luck. Unlock as many of the nine slots as your schedule allows, push your highest content early so the item levels are high, and treat the vault as a planned weekly upgrade rather than an afterthought. Do that every reset and your character's gear curve stays ahead of the content you're trying to clear.
