There is no quest called "Midnight" you can pick up in World of Warcraft right now — Midnight is the name of the next expansion, not a quest. Its intro questline goes live only when the expansion launches (or earlier on the public test realm/beta for invited testers). On live servers today, the current campaign is The War Within, which is where your quest log should point.
What actually exists right now
- Midnight — announced expansion. No live starting quest on retail realms.
- The War Within — the current expansion. This is the campaign you can start and play today.
- PTR / beta — where unreleased expansion content is tested before launch. Access is by invite or by opting in through Battle.net; characters there are copies or templates, and progress does not carry to live.
- Pre-patch events — expansions usually get a short pre-launch event on live servers a few weeks before release. That event, when it arrives, is the first Midnight-flavoured content most players will touch.
How WoW expansion intros normally start
Every recent expansion has followed the same shape, so you can expect Midnight to work like this:
- Hit the level requirement. Expansion intros gate behind the previous expansion's max level. Level up in The War Within first — that requirement will not go away.
- Own the expansion on your account. The intro quest simply will not appear otherwise.
- Check your mail or the yellow exclamation mark. Blizzard delivers the starting quest either by in-game letter or as a breadcrumb NPC standing in your faction's main city hub.
- Take the flight/ship the quest points you to. The intro scenario ships you to the new zone; you cannot fly there manually before the quest exists.
- Finish the intro scenario. It unlocks the new zones, the campaign chapter and whatever new system the expansion introduces.
If you are levelling now, that step-one work counts. Nothing you do in The War Within is wasted when Midnight lands.
Why does Google show me "Midnight quest" results?
Most of those pages are expansion previews, announcement coverage and datamined speculation, not walkthroughs of a live quest. A few results are also about unrelated things entirely — "Midnight" is a common name outside WoW. If a page describes exact Midnight quest steps, NPC names and coordinates today, treat it as guesswork.
Is there any Midnight-named quest already in the game?
WoW has thousands of quests, and short words like "midnight" show up in old quest and item names across earlier content — there is a well-known Midnight mount tied to Karazhan, for example. None of those are the expansion's starting questline. If you searched because a friend mentioned "starting Midnight," they almost certainly meant the expansion, not a quest you can accept today.
What should I do now to be ready for launch?
Get one character to current max level and reasonably geared, so you are not stuck levelling while everyone else is doing the new campaign. Clear out anything time-limited you still want from the current expansion. Bank some gold — the first weeks of a new expansion are the most expensive stretch in the game, with consumables and crafting materials spiking hard.
Can I play Midnight early on the PTR?
Testing builds go up on the public test realm before release, and opt-in access is sometimes opened widely. You download a separate client through the Battle.net app and play on a test character. Expect bugs, wipes and content that changes before launch — it is a preview, not a head start.
