The Amani War Bear was the reward for beating Zul'Aman's timed event in The Burning Crusade, where your raid had to rescue all four captives before the timer ran out. Wrath's pre-patch removed it from original WoW, and on retail it is now a Feat of Strength. The one place it may return is TBC Anniversary, which has not opened Zul'Aman yet.

How did the Zul'Aman timed run work?

Starting the event also started a timer. Four Amani captives were held across the troll city, one near each of the first four bosses. Killing each boss in time freed its captive and opened a chest, and every boss you killed quickly gave you more time for the next one. The chest of the fourth and last captive held the bear.

Since one run gave one mount, guilds took turns. People handed the bear down a waiting list, week after week. Ask a TBC raider about it and you'll usually hear about a run that failed by seconds.

Amani War Bear vs. Amani Battle Bear: what's the difference?

They are two different mounts. The Amani War Bear came from the original TBC raid. The Amani Battle Bear came from the timed run in Cataclysm's 5-player heroic Zul'Aman. Both look like armored war bears, which is why people mix them up. The Battle Bear is no longer obtainable either, so retail players can't get either one today.

Can you get the Amani War Bear on retail now?

No. Neither bear can be earned on retail, from the Trading Post, or through any current event. Characters that earned one before it was removed keep it. Blizzard has brought back other removed mounts before. If that happens to the bear, the announcement will be the confirmation; until then, assume it is gone.

Will the bear be obtainable in TBC Anniversary?

Phase 3, the current phase, began on August 27, 2026, according to Blizzard's announcement. It added Black Temple and Mount Hyjal. Blizzard has not announced a release date for Zul'Aman in the Anniversary version. When the original TBC Classic opened the raid, the timed event and its bear came back with it. Whether Anniversary will work the same way is still unknown. For now, gear up and get your raid team working together so you are ready when it opens.

Getting ready while you wait

  1. Get your 70s geared through the current raids: Karazhan, Gruul, Magtheridon, SSC, Tempest Keep, Black Temple and Hyjal.
  2. Finish attunements. In Anniversary they are account-wide, so you only have to do each one once.
  3. Build a steady 10-player roster with strong damage. Timed runs go wrong when the team panics, much more than when gear falls short.

If you'd rather have experienced players help you catch up, PewPewShop's vetted human boosters offer TBC Raid Clear runs from EUR 18 and Raid Attunements from EUR 20. They play with you, with no bots and no cheats.
