Battleground Blitz is World of Warcraft's solo-queue rated battleground mode, and in Midnight it is still the fastest way to earn PvP rating and Conquest without a premade team. You queue on your own, get slotted into an 8v8 match on a classic objective map with a shortened win condition, and your personal rating moves after every single game.
Think of it as Solo Shuffle's battleground cousin: no scheduling, no roster, no waiting on a healer to log in. Press queue, play a short objective match, get a rating number.
- Format: 8v8, rated, matchmade — you do not bring a team.
- Match length: short. Win conditions are trimmed compared to normal battlegrounds, so games end fast instead of dragging past the 20-minute mark.
- Maps: the familiar objective battlegrounds — flag caps, cart pushes, node control — rotated through the Blitz pool with tightened scoring.
- Where to queue: open the PvP window (default H) and pick Battleground Blitz. Level-capped character required, and you want at least a starter set of PvP gear before you touch rated.
- Rewards: Conquest per match plus rating-gated upgrades on your PvP gear, so climbing directly raises your item level.
- Ladder tiers: the standard rated milestones still apply — Combatant around 1000, Challenger 1400, Rival 1600, Duelist 1800, with the elite brackets above that. Seasonal cutoffs and reward item levels change every season, so confirm the current numbers in-game rather than trusting an old guide.
Is Battleground Blitz solo queue only?
Yes — that is the entire point of the bracket. You enter without a group and the matchmaker builds both teams around role and rating. Your score is yours: nobody's leave, nobody's afk, and nobody's rating carries you.
The trade-off is obvious once you play a few games. You cannot coordinate a kill target or a flag route before the gates open, so the players who climb are the ones who read the map fast and communicate in chat instead of tunneling on the first enemy they see.
Blitz or Rated Battlegrounds — which is faster for rating in Midnight?
Blitz, almost always, purely because of availability. Rated Battlegrounds need ten organised players; Blitz needs you and a queue button. For most people the ceiling is time spent, not skill, and Blitz removes the scheduling problem entirely.
RBGs still win on control. With a coordinated group you dictate comp and strategy, which matters a lot in the higher brackets. Many players do both: Blitz for the weekly Conquest and steady rating, RBGs when the group is actually online.
What gear do you need before queuing Blitz?
Enough PvP gear that you are not dying in two globals. Honor gear from unrated battlegrounds gets you to a workable baseline quickly, and the PvP stat scaling inside rated matches narrows the gap further — but it does not erase a 40-item-level deficit.
The efficient path is: grind Honor into a full set, queue Blitz, spend Conquest as it comes in, then use rising rating to unlock the higher upgrade ranks on the pieces you already wear.
Why does my rating swing so hard early on?
New characters start with high matchmaking volatility, so the first batch of games moves your number in big steps until the system finds your bracket. Play a solid block of matches before judging your rating — a single bad night at the start of a season is noise, not a ceiling.
If you would rather have the rating handled while you learn the maps, PewPewShop runs Battleground Blitz progression help with vetted human players — coaching, play-together sessions, or a rent-a-pro pushing the bracket for you. Blitz rating work starts from EUR 25.04, with the current Midnight Season 2 Blitz rating package from EUR 60.01. No bots, no cheats, and a long clean record.
