Tiers 9–11 add difficulty and cosmetic prestige, not a higher gear track, so Tier 8 bountiful runs are the practical item level ceiling for solo players.

- Bountiful vs regular: a bountiful Delve (marked on the map) has an extra chest that needs a Restored Coffer Key. That chest is where the good item level comes from — the regular end chest is a step lower.
- Great Vault: completing Tier 8 bountiful Delves counts toward the Delve row of your vault. That row is the only way Delves hand out Hero-track gear, so clear enough Tier 8s each week to unlock all three slots.
- Exact numbers: the item level of every tier is printed in the Delve entrance tooltip and on the Great Vault panel in-game. Blizzard tunes those values each season, so read them there rather than from a month-old screenshot.
- Tier unlocks: you unlock higher tiers by completing the tier below on that character. Tier 8 is gated behind Tier 7, and Tiers 9–11 unlock in sequence.
What item level do I need to start Tier 8 Delves?
There is no hard gear requirement — the game only checks that you unlocked the tier. In practice, you want a full set of Veteran-track gear from Tiers 4–7 and a Brann (or your chosen companion) leveled a fair way before Tier 8 feels comfortable. Tanks and self-healing specs can push earlier; squishy casters should farm Tier 7 bountifuls for a week first.
If you are under-geared, the boss at the end is the wall, not the trash. Interrupts, defensive cooldowns and not pulling two packs at once matter more than another five item levels.
Are Tier 9, 10 and 11 Delves worth it for gear?
Not for loot. The chest at the end of a Tier 11 gives the same gear track as Tier 8; what changes is the enemy scaling, the affix pressure and the rewards that are not gear — achievements, the tier-clear titles and cosmetic drops. Run them if you want the challenge or the Tier 11 achievement, but for item level you are wasting Coffer Keys past Tier 8.
How do Restored Coffer Keys work in Midnight?
Coffer Keys open the bountiful chest at the end of a bountiful Delve. You earn them from weekly quests, the fragment currency that drops from world content, and seasonal events such as the Midnight ritual sites. Keys are weekly-capped, so spend them only on Tier 8 bountifuls once you are geared enough — that is where each key buys the highest item level.
Delves vs Mythic+ for item level in Midnight
Delves cap at Champion-track drops and Hero-track vault gear. Mythic+ at higher keys hands out Hero-track drops directly and Myth-track vault items, so keys still win for a full Hero set. The honest trade: Delves are solo, on your own schedule and have zero group drama; Mythic+ is faster to a higher item level but needs a group and a pulse for pug politics. Most players run Tier 8 Delves for the vault row and dip into keys for the rest.
