Delves award crests from the chest at the end of every run, and the crest quality scales with the delve tier: low tiers pay out the lowest crest, mid tiers the second, and Tier 7-8 and above pay the third-tier crest used for hero-track upgrades. Running Tier 8 bountiful delves each week is the most solo-friendly way to fill your crest cap without touching Mythic+ or a raid roster.

  • Crests drop from the end-of-delve chest on every completion, bountiful or not. Bountiful only changes the gear coffer, not the crest payout.
  • Each item upgrade step costs 15 crests of the matching rank, so one delve rarely funds more than one upgrade.
  • The weekly crest cap rises every week of the season, so you can fall behind and still catch up later without losing crests.
  • Crest names are reskinned each season (Weathered, Carved, Runed, Gilded was The War Within's set; Midnight uses its own names) but the four-rank structure and the delve tier mapping stay the same. Check the rewards panel on the Delve tier selector for the exact current cutoffs.

Which delve tier gives the best crests?

Tier 8 is the sweet spot. It is the lowest tier that pays the third-rank crest at full value, and it is the same tier where the bountiful coffer starts dropping hero-track gear. Tiers 9 through 11 are harder but historically have not paid out a better crest rank, so they are for achievements, the seasonal delve boss challenge and bragging rights, not for crest efficiency.

If Tier 8 is still out of reach, Tier 7 pays the same crest rank in most seasons, just with a weaker gear coffer. Tier 4-6 fills the second crest rank quickly, which is exactly what fresh Veteran gear needs.

Do bountiful delves give more crests?

No. Bountiful status, unlocked by spending a Restored Coffer Key, adds a second chest with gear. The crest reward comes from the standard completion chest and is identical whether the delve is bountiful or not. Save your keys for Tier 8 or higher, where the bountiful gear is actually worth having, and run non-bountiful delves purely for crests once your keys are spent.

Can you get the top-tier crest from delves?

Not in any reliable quantity. The fourth and highest crest rank, which upgrades Myth-track items, is designed as a Mythic+ and raid reward. Delves feed the first three ranks, so a delve-only player can fully upgrade Hero-track gear but will stall on Myth-track pieces from the Great Vault. If you want to push Hero-track items to their last steps, the third-rank crest from Tier 8 delves is what you need, and you can farm it solo.

Is there a weekly crest cap in delves?

Yes, but it is a shared seasonal cap, not a delve-specific one. Each crest rank has its own cap that grows by a fixed amount every week, and crests from delves, dungeons and raids all count toward the same total. Once a rank is capped, extra delves of that band give no more of that crest. Conversion at the crest vendor lets you turn a surplus of a lower rank into the next one up, which makes over-farming low tiers less of a waste.
