Bandages heal over 6-8 seconds out of combat and break instantly if you move or take damage.

How do you level First Aid to 300 in Classic WoW?
Visit a trainer and buy the recipes as you go, then make bandages from the cloth in each tier above. Around skill 125 you must buy the Expert First Aid — Under Wraps book to push past 150. To break 225 and reach Artisan, complete the Triage quest.
You'll burn through a lot of cloth, so bank Wool, Silk, and Runecloth while questing instead of vendoring it. Buying stacks off the auction house also works if you'd rather save time.
Where do you learn First Aid and the Triage quest?
First Aid trainers sit in every capital — Stormwind, Ironforge, Darnassus for Alliance; Orgrimmar, Undercity, Thunder Bluff for Horde. Just ask a city guard for directions.
The Artisan Triage quest is given by Doctor Gustaf VanHowzen in Theramore (Alliance) and Doctor Gregory Victor at Hammerfall in Arathi Highlands (Horde). You need 225 skill to take it and must stabilize enough patients in time to pass.
Is First Aid worth it in Classic WoW?
Yes, for almost everyone. Bandages are free downtime healing between pulls, which saves food and drink and speeds up grinding. It's especially strong for classes without self-heals — warriors, rogues, mages, hunters — and in PvP, where a mid-fight bandage can swing a duel.
The trade-off is cloth cost and the fact that you can't bandage while taking damage, so it complements rather than replaces potions.
