World of Warcraft has 13 transmog slots: head, shoulders, back, chest, shirt, tabard, wrist, hands, waist, legs, feet, main hand and off hand. Neck, rings and trinkets cannot be transmogged. Several of those 13 can also be hidden entirely, and each shoulder can be set separately, so you actually control 14 visible pieces on your character.
The 13 transmog slots at a glance
| Slot | Can be hidden? | Notes |
| Head | Yes | Helm, hood, hat, cowl |
| Shoulders | Yes | Left and right set independently |
| Back | Yes | Cloak |
| Chest | No | Robes count as chest |
| Shirt | Yes | Cosmetic layer under the chest |
| Tabard | Yes | Cosmetic layer over the chest |
| Wrist | Yes | Bracers |
| Hands | No | Gloves |
| Waist | Yes | Belt |
| Legs | No | Pants, kilts |
| Feet | No | Boots |
| Main hand | No | Any weapon your class can wield, including bows and staves |
| Off hand | No | Second weapon, shield or held item |
Three pieces of gear you wear are never part of the count: necklace, both rings and both trinkets. They have no visible model, so there is nothing to change.
Battle Pet CollectionLevel pets, win tamers and grab rare battle pets.from 18 EURGet it doneWhy do people say 14 or 15 slots?
Two reasons. Since Shadowlands you can pick a different appearance for the left and right shoulder, which turns one slot into two choices. Dual-wielding classes also treat main hand and off hand as two full weapon slots, and a shield or off-hand item is its own appearance pool. Count it that way and you land at 14 to 15 things you can visually tune.
The official slot list in the Transmogrifier window, though, is the 13 above. That is the number to use when planning a set.
Which transmog slots can be hidden?
Every slot that could break a silhouette has a hide option: head, both shoulders, cloak, shirt, tabard, bracers and belt. Hiding is free and is set in the same Transmogrifier window as normal appearances. Chest, hands, legs, feet and weapons cannot be hidden; the closest workaround is a deliberately plain appearance such as a simple cloth chest or a small dagger.
One catch: the hide option is saved per outfit, so when you save a new set, double-check the toggles carried over.
How many transmog outfits can you save?
Saved outfits live in the dropdown at the top of the Transmogrifier and are stored per character, with a hard cap on how many you can keep. If you build sets for every spec and every mood, you will hit that limit. Two fixes: delete stale outfits, or install an addon such as Better Wardrobe, which stores extra sets on the addon side and applies them through the normal interface. The appearance collection itself is account-wide, so the cap only affects saved combinations, not what you own.
Does transmog cost anything per slot?
Yes, but it is trivial. Each changed slot charges a small gold fee that scales with item level, and hiding a slot is free. Changing a full 13-slot set on a max-level character costs well under what a single world quest pays. Weapons are the only place the rules get stricter: you can only pick appearances from weapon types your class can equip, and a two-hander cannot borrow a one-hander look.
If the grind behind a specific look is the problem rather than the slots themselves, PewPewShop's Full Transmog Project (from EUR 70) pairs you with a vetted human player who runs the old raids, dungeons and achievement chains for the set you want, in coaching or play-together format. Handy for the pieces locked behind weekly raid lockouts or long reputation climbs.
