On the WoW 20th Anniversary realms, gold comes from Classic-era sources only — there is no cross-realm mail, no retail token, and no transfer in from other servers. Your fastest earners are gathering (Herbalism/Mining) sold on a small, hungry auction house, dungeon runs cleared for vendor greens and cloth, and daily quests once you hit max level. Prices spike early, then settle.
The thing people miss about a fresh Anniversary economy: gold is scarce and materials are expensive. A stack of low-level herbs or ore that would be worthless on a mature realm sells for real money in the first weeks, because thousands of players are levelling professions at the same time and nobody has a stockpile. That inversion is where most of the easy money lives.
What actually earns on an Anniversary realm
| Method | When it pays best | Effort |
| Herbalism + Mining (double gatherer) | First weeks, while everyone levels professions | Low, very time-hungry |
| Skinning while levelling | Constant — leather feeds Leatherworking demand | Nearly free, you're killing things anyway |
| Dungeon clears for cloth & greens | Any time; cloth demand never dies | Medium |
| Max-level dailies | After you cap — steady, predictable | Low |
| Auction house flipping | Once the market has liquidity, not week one | Low effort, needs capital |
| Crafting for the levelling wave | Bags, weapon enchants, consumables | High setup cost |
The five-step version
- Take two gathering professions while you level. Herbalism and Mining together is the classic pairing; Skinning is the free add-on if you're already grinding mobs.
- Track prices before you list. On a young realm the auction house moves fast — check what a stack actually sold for, not what someone hopefully listed it at.
- Sell in stacks players want to buy, not one big pile. Levelling crafters buy in small increments.
- Don't dump everything at once. Flooding a thin market crashes your own price. Drip-feed.
- Once capped, run dailies and use the reliable gold to fund mounts, riding skill and raid consumables.
Can I transfer gold from retail or another server?
No. Anniversary realm economies are self-contained — there's no mailing gold across realms or from a retail character, and the retail token doesn't apply. Everything in your bags was earned on that realm.
How much gold do I actually need?
Riding skill and a mount are the first real wall, and they matter more than any piece of gear at that stage — faster travel compounds into every gold-per-hour method you use afterwards. After that, budget for bags, weapon skill and consumables if you plan to raid. Most players who feel "broke" spent early gold on greens from the auction house that they'd have replaced in two levels anyway.
Is gathering really better than farming a specific mob?
Early on, yes, in most cases. Named mob and item farms depend on drop chances and competition; herbs and ore are guaranteed income every time a node spawns. Once the realm matures and material prices normalise, targeted farms and crafting margins start to win instead.
What about PvP ranking on Anniversary realms?
PvP rank grinding on Classic-era realms is one of the heaviest time commitments in the game — the old ranking system rewards raw hours played per week more than skill. It's a separate project from gold farming entirely, and it does not fund itself.
If you'd rather spend your evenings raiding than mining, PewPewShop's vetted human players handle Classic gold and progression work — Classic Hardcore Gold from EUR 17, WoW Gold — Bulk from EUR 160, and Classic 20th Anniversary PVP Ranking from EUR 499.99 for the rank grind nobody has time for. Coaching and play-together sessions are there too if you'd rather learn the farm routes yourself.
