Nothing is broken. On the WoW: Forever beta, buying a new spell rank from your class trainer does not automatically swap the older rank already sitting on your action bar. Per Wowhead, that auto-replace only happens for Rogues and Warriors; mana users must drag the new rank out of the spellbook by hand, and the spellbook hides lower ranks until you toggle them on.
So if your Frostbolt still hits for the same numbers after a trainer visit, you are almost certainly still casting the old rank. Here is the 20-second fix.
Beta progress is temporary: beta gold is wiped on October 21. Launch gold has its own card. Launch gold (from November 4) · All Forever services
- Visit your class trainer and buy the new rank as normal.
- Open your spellbook and find the spell. By default you see only the highest rank you own.
- Drag that spell icon onto the action-bar slot that holds the outdated rank. It overwrites it.
- Hover the button and check the rank number in the tooltip before you pull a pack.
- Repeat for every mana-using ability you just upgraded — nothing carries over in bulk.
The classes this bites hardest are the full casters and the hybrids: Mage, Priest, Warlock, Shaman, Druid, Paladin, and Hunter abilities that cost mana. Rogues and Warriors can skip the whole routine — their bars update themselves.
Why can't I see my lower spell ranks anymore?
Because the Forever spellbook collapses ranks by default and shows you the newest one only. There is a toggle to show all ranks; flip it and every rank you have purchased reappears, ready to be dragged onto a bar.
This is a display default, not a removal. Your old ranks are still learned, still castable, and still cost what they cost. If a macro or an addon suddenly stopped finding a rank, check that toggle before you assume a bug.

The ranks are all still there and still individually castable, which is exactly why the game keeps the show-all-ranks toggle around. A cheap low rank for a quick top-up or a small shield remains a legitimate tool.
What Blizzard has not published is any change to how mana costs and coefficients scale between ranks in Forever, so treat old spreadsheets as a starting point rather than gospel. Test on your own character during the beta — that is what it is for.
Is this a bug that will be patched before launch?
Blizzard has not called it one. It reads as inherited Classic behaviour rather than a defect, and the difference between Rogues/Warriors and mana users is documented beta behaviour, not a fault report. The beta runs September 17 to October 21, 2026, with launch on November 4 at 3 p.m. Pacific, so there is time for it to change — but plan around re-dragging your bars for now.
How do I stop losing damage to this while leveling?
Build a habit: every trainer stop ends with a spellbook pass. Buy everything, then immediately re-drag the three or four abilities you actually spam. Most lost DPS during a leveling run comes from a caster running four levels on an old Rank 3 nuke without noticing.
A second trick: keep your core rotation on one bar and check its tooltips after each trainer visit. Five seconds of checking beats an hour of wondering why your kills feel slow.
If you would rather have someone else handle the grind while you keep your evenings, PewPewShop runs coaching and play-together progression help with vetted human players — no bots, no cheats, long zero-ban record. Forever Beta Leveling 1–20 starts from EUR 13, and Power Leveling 1–60 for launch starts from EUR 25. Either way, the fix above takes twenty seconds and costs nothing.
