The best classes for solo delves are the ones that can tank and heal themselves at once: Beast Mastery Hunter, Vengeance Demon Hunter, Blood Death Knight and Protection Paladin. Any tank spec or pet class clears every tier comfortably, while pure DPS specs with little self-healing feel Tier 8 and above the most. You do not need to reroll, but pick your most self-sufficient spec.
Solo delve tier list at a glance
| Tier | Specs | Why it works solo |
| S | Beast Mastery Hunter, Vengeance Demon Hunter, Blood Death Knight | A pet or your own leech/mitigation soaks damage; you barely need the companion to heal |
| A | Protection Paladin, Guardian Druid, Brewmaster Monk, Protection Warrior | Full tank kit; slower kills but almost zero deaths |
| A | Demonology/Destruction Warlock, Retribution Paladin, Balance Druid | Voidwalker taunt, Word of Glory and strong defensives cover the gaps |
| B | Frost/Unholy DK, Feral Druid, Enhancement Shaman, Havoc DH | Good healing or mobility, but you feel every mistake at Tier 8+ |
| C | Mage, Rogue, Marksmanship Hunter, Priest DPS, Elemental Shaman | High burst, little sustain; doable, just less forgiving |
What actually makes a spec good in solo delves
- Something else takes the hits. A Hunter pet, a Warlock Voidwalker or a tank's own armour means bosses are not chunking your health bar directly.
- Self-healing on demand. Death Strike, Soul Cleave, Word of Glory, Exhilaration and Frenzied Regeneration let you fix a bad pull without waiting for the companion.
- Interrupt and stun. Most delve deaths come from uninterrupted casters, not boss mechanics. Bring at least one kick and one hard stun.
- Ranged or mobile. Kiting a boss around a room while the pet tanks is the single safest way to clear Tier 11.
Is Beast Mastery Hunter really the best solo delve class?
For most players, yes. The pet holds aggro through its taunt and Mend Pet keeps it alive, so you stay at range doing full damage while almost nothing touches you. Add Feign Death for a free reset, Exhilaration for emergencies and Freezing Trap for a caster, and there are very few delve rooms a BM Hunter cannot brute-force.
The trade-off is pace. A tank spec with real AoE will often finish the run faster, and a Hunter who lets the pet die mid-boss is suddenly a cloth-wearer with no plan.
Should I set my companion to healer or DPS?
Healer if you are a DPS spec, DPS if you are a tank. Tanks already have their own mitigation and only lose time by having the companion heal a bar that barely moves. Ranged and melee DPS gain far more from a steady stream of heals than from a small damage increase, especially on the last two bosses of a Tier 8+ run.
Can a pure DPS class solo Tier 11 delves?
Yes, and plenty of Mages and Rogues do it every week. The rules just get stricter: gear at or above the tier's recommended item level, companion on healer, use every defensive on cooldown rather than saving them, and interrupt casters first. Rogues get Vanish and Crimson Vial, Mages get Ice Block and Alter Time, and Priests can heal themselves properly. Slower and tenser than a Blood DK, but very much doable.
Which class should I level specifically for delves?
If you are rolling a fresh character with delves as the goal, Death Knight, Demon Hunter or Paladin. All three have a strong tank spec for solo clears plus a real DPS spec for group content, so the same character covers both. Hunter is the pick if you prefer ranged play and want the easiest possible learning curve.
