There is no vendor that sells Veteran-track gear for gold. Veteran is the third of six upgrade tracks, and every piece is earned — Heroic dungeons, LFR raid wings, mid-tier Bountiful Delves, world quests and the season's catch-up vendor. Gold only helps in three places: commissioning crafted gear, buying Bind-on-Equip epics on the Auction House, or paying for coaching.

Veteran gear: quick facts

  • Track order: Explorer → Adventurer → Veteran → Champion → Hero → Myth. Veteran sits third from the bottom.
  • Ranks: 8 total, shown as Veteran 1/8 through 8/8, roughly +3 item levels per rank — about 21 item levels from bottom to top.
  • Upgrade cost: Valorstones plus the season's lower-tier crests, spent at the item upgrade NPC in the season's hub city (Dornogal in The War Within).
  • Tradeable? No. Once a Veteran piece drops for you it's soulbound — nobody can sell you theirs.
  • Where it lands you: a fully upgraded Veteran item overlaps the bottom of the Champion track, which is where Mythic dungeons and Normal raid take over.

Fastest ways to fill your bags with Veteran gear

  1. Heroic dungeon spam. Queue through Group Finder, 15–20 minutes a run, every boss and the end chest can drop Veteran pieces. This is the single most reliable source.
  2. Bountiful Delves at mid tiers. Solo or duo with your companion, no group required. Each Bountiful chest costs a key and pays a guaranteed piece.
  3. LFR wings. One clear per wing per week, low pressure, decent slot coverage — especially for trinkets and weapons that never drop for you elsewhere.
  4. Seasonal vendors. Most seasons ship a catch-up currency you spend in the hub city on specific slots. Use it on the slot that has refused to drop, not the one you already filled.
  5. Crafted gear. The one genuine gold route. You supply or buy the reagents, pay a crafter's commission, and pick the exact slot and stats you want.

Can you buy Veteran gear with gold?

Only indirectly. Crafted gear is the real answer — you post an order or whisper a crafter, pay in gold, and get a piece in the exact slot with the stats you chose. Prices swing hard with reagent costs and where you are in the season, so check the Auction House before agreeing to a commission.

The other gold option is Bind-on-Equip epics. Availability depends on the patch, and prices spike the week a raid opens, then fall fast. Watch the listings for a few days before buying.

Is Veteran gear worth upgrading?

Mostly no. Veteran is a floor, not a destination. If you're actively running Heroic dungeons and Delves, you'll replace those pieces within days, and crests spent there are crests you don't have when a Champion or Hero piece drops.

The exception is a stuck slot. If a weapon, trinket or off-hand hasn't dropped in two weeks, pushing that one Veteran piece up a few ranks is a fine use of Valorstones — those are far easier to re-earn than crests.

Veteran vs Champion — what's the actual difference?

Champion is one full track above Veteran and starts roughly where Veteran finishes. Veteran comes from Heroic dungeons and LFR; Champion comes from Mythic 0, Normal raid and higher Delve tiers. If you're already clearing Mythic 0 comfortably, skip Veteran upgrades entirely and save your crests.

How long does a full Veteran set take?

For a fresh max-level character, expect one long evening to a weekend — a handful of Heroic dungeons plus that week's Bountiful Delves usually covers most slots. Weapons and trinkets are the stragglers, which is exactly what the seasonal vendor currency is for.
