No — a WoW: Forever transmog set stores exactly one appearance per armor type per slot. A chest slot can remember one plate look, one mail look, one leather look and one cloth look side by side, but never two plate looks at the same time. Appearances are also locked to their own armor type: plate only shows as plate, cloth only as cloth. Blizzard confirmed both points at the BlizzCon Deep Dive and the September 17 Q&A.
Forever transmog rules at a glance
- Per slot, per armor type: one saved appearance for each armor class a slot can hold. Swap a plate chest for a cloth chest and the saved cloth look takes over.
- Same type only: plate to plate, mail to mail, leather to leather, cloth to cloth. No cross-type looks.
- Where you set it: at a transmogrifier NPC in certain cities. Which cities is not yet published.
- Opt-in per player: you can switch transmog off entirely; anyone who opts out sees every player in their real equipped gear. Classic Mode at first launch disables it automatically, although appearances still collect in the background.
- Level restrictions: appearance level limits lift at 60. Below that, a look is gated by the item's level.
- Hidden helm and cloak: still honored.
- Collection: Bind-on-pickup Uncommon and Rare dungeon drops grant their appearance to every eligible looter in the group when the item drops. Epic raid loot grants its look only to the player it binds to. Poor and Common items give their appearance on loot without binding.
- Cosmetic-only items: rare in Forever, per Blizzard.
Can a Paladin transmog cloth in WoW: Forever?
Only while wearing cloth. Paladins can equip cloth, leather, mail and plate, so a Paladin's set holds one appearance for each of those four types in every slot. Put on a cloth robe and the saved cloth appearance applies; put plate back on and the plate look returns. What you cannot do is make a plate chestpiece look like a robe, because plate maps to plate only.
In practice this matters most for caster-flavored Holy Paladins who level in mixed gear. Collect the cloth looks you like from dungeon drops early, since Uncommon and Rare BoP dungeon items hand their appearance to everyone eligible in the group, not just the winner.
How many transmog sets or outfit slots does WoW: Forever have?
Blizzard has not published a set count. The confirmed detail is how each set is built: one appearance per armor type per slot. Whether the transmogrifier offers several saved outfits per character, or a single active one, is unknown right now and will most likely surface during the beta, which runs September 17 to October 21 with a level cap that climbs from 20 to 30.
How does WoW: Forever transmog differ from Modern WoW?
Three things stand out. First, it is opt-in per player and can be switched off completely, so anyone who wants the old-school look of everyone in their real gear can have it. Second, dungeon appearance sharing is more generous than Modern: BoP Uncommon and Rare dungeon drops unlock for all eligible looters, while epic raid items stay with the player who binds them. Third, the armor-type lock is strict — no plate-as-cloth tricks. Appearance level gates also stay in place until 60, so you cannot wear an endgame look on a fresh alt.
Does the appearance collection carry across rulesets?
Forever is realmless: you choose a ruleset (Normal, PvP, Roleplaying, and Hardcore after launch) rather than a server. Collections are account-wide across rulesets with one exception — Hardcore is enclosed, so progress flows out of Hardcore but nothing flows in. Whether any Classic or Modern transmog collection carries into Forever has not been stated; treat it as unknown.
If you would rather have a vetted human player help fill your collection — dungeon runs where the whole group unlocks the drop, or a Launch-Ready Pack that gets a character to 60 with pre-raid gear from EUR 219 — PewPewShop offers Forever play-together and progression help as pre-orders until November 4. A Drowned City Dungeon Run starts from EUR 16; no bots, no cheats, long zero-ban record.
