Midnight's Eternal Reins drops from Attumen the Huntsman, the final boss of Lower Return to Karazhan on Mythic difficulty. The entrance sits in Deadwind Pass. It's a rare drop, so plan on repeat runs — the dungeon isn't gated by the weekly raid lockout that limits old Karazhan, and any modern max-level character can clear it solo in minutes.
The fastest route, step by step
- Fly to Deadwind Pass and land at the Karazhan tower — the same spire the old raid uses.
- Right-click the dungeon portal for Return to Karazhan (the Legion dungeon, not the legacy raid door).
- Set your difficulty to Mythic before you zone in. Return to Karazhan has no Normal or Heroic version, and you cannot queue for it — you walk in.
- Clear Lower Karazhan: the Opera Hall event, Maiden of Virtue, then Attumen the Huntsman at the end.
- Loot Attumen. If the reins don't drop, reset the instance and run it again.
Quick facts
- Mount: Midnight — the black warhorse Attumen rides.
- Item: Midnight's Eternal Reins.
- Source: Attumen the Huntsman, Lower Return to Karazhan (Mythic).
- Zone: Deadwind Pass, Eastern Kingdoms.
- Drop chance: rare. There is no vendor, no currency, no bad-luck protection — it is pure RNG.
- Solo: yes, comfortably, on any current max-level character.
How many runs will it take?
Honestly, nobody can promise a number. It's a low-percentage drop, so some players see it in their first ten clears and others are still going after two hundred. The upside is that a full Lower Karazhan clear takes only a few minutes once you know the route, so the grind is cheap in time per attempt.
Run it on several characters if you want more rolls per session — each character gets its own loot from Attumen.
Is this the same as the Fiery Warhorse?
No, but they share a boss name. The original Karazhan raid — the other door in the same tower — has its own Attumen encounter that can drop Fiery Warhorse's Reins, a flaming skeletal-looking steed. That version is a legacy raid and follows a weekly lockout, so it's one attempt per week per character.
Since both entrances sit at the same tower, most collectors do the weekly raid clear and then farm the Mythic dungeon on repeat in the same trip.
Are there Midnight mounts from the Midnight expansion?
That's the other thing people mean by this search. Expansion mounts come from the usual pools — seasonal raid and Mythic+ rewards, reputation and renown tracks, rare spawns and world drops, achievements, and edition or Trading Post bundles. I won't list specific new mount names I can't confirm; check the in-game Adventure Guide and your renown tracks, which always show the current season's exact sources.
Can you buy the Midnight mount?
Not from Blizzard. It has never been on the in-game shop and it isn't tradeable, so it has to be looted from Attumen.
