The fastest raid DPS gains come from playing longer, not pressing faster: uptime, movement planning and cooldown alignment move parses far more than a perfect opener. Log every pull with Warcraft Logs, compare your damage-taken and downtime lines against a higher parse of the same fight, and fix your two biggest time losses before you touch gear or talents.

  1. Fix survival first. A death at 60% is a permanent zero on the rest of the fight. No rotation change recovers that.
  2. Cut downtime. Open your log, click your name, open the Casts or Buffs tab and look for gaps with no damaging ability. Every empty second is raw lost DPS.
  3. Count your cooldown uses. Divide fight length by your major cooldown's recharge time. If the fight ran 5 minutes and your 2-minute cooldown fired twice instead of three times, that is your single biggest fix.
  4. Pre-position for mechanics. Learn where the boss goes, stand there early, and keep casting instead of running mid-cast.
  5. Then tune the rotation. Practice on a dummy until priority is automatic, so the raid encounter is the only thing you are thinking about.
  6. Then check gear and consumables. Food, flask, augment rune, weapon enchant, correct stat priority — small but free.

Why is my parse low even with good gear?

Parses are percentile rankings against other players of your spec at similar item level, so gear does not carry you. Low percentiles almost always trace back to fight uptime — deaths, forced movement, late cooldowns and downtime while running out for a mechanic.

Check the Damage Done tab, then compare your ability breakdown to a 90th-percentile log for the same boss and spec. The difference is usually cast count, not ability choice.

What actually raises raid DPS the most?

In rough order: staying alive, keeping the global cooldown rolling, using every cooldown you own the maximum number of times, then rotation precision. Most players sit on cooldowns waiting for a "perfect" burst window and lose an entire usage.

Use cooldowns on cooldown unless the fight has a known burst phase within the next 20–30 seconds. Held cooldowns are unused cooldowns.

How do I read Warcraft Logs to improve?

Look at four things per pull: your death log, your active time percentage, your cooldown usage count, and your avoidable damage taken. Those four columns explain most of the gap between an average and a strong parse.

Then re-pull the same boss and try to change exactly one of them. Chasing all four at once means you never learn which change worked.

Do addons and weakauras really matter?

Yes, but as a timing aid, not a crutch. A boss-mod addon plus a simple cooldown tracker removes the mental load of remembering timers, which frees attention for positioning and casting. They will not fix a rotation you have not practised.

If you would rather learn this with someone watching your pulls in real time, PewPewShop runs coaching and play-together sessions with vetted human players — no bots, no cheats — who call out the fixes as they happen. If you just need the raid cleared while you work on your own play, a Normal Raid Full Clear starts from EUR 25 and Heroic Raid Full Clear from EUR 55.
