Rockslicer is a Deadmines weapon on the WoW: Forever beta that lets whoever wields it mine Copper, Tin, Silver and Iron nodes without having the Mining profession. It carries 30 charges, and per Wowhead's beta coverage the weapon stays in your bags once those charges are gone. Treat it as a convenience item for a profession-less alt, not a replacement for real Mining skill.

Where does Rockslicer drop in WoW: Forever?
It is a Deadmines item. Deadmines returns in Forever — it sits in the Novice tier of the "Spelunker" achievements photographed at the BlizzCon demo, alongside Ragefire Chasm, Wailing Caverns and Shadowfang Keep, so the whole classic dungeon list is back.

The exact boss has not been published. Blizzard has not released loot tables or boss lists for Forever dungeons, so anyone quoting you a specific drop chance or a named boss for Rockslicer right now is guessing. Deadmines is also where the new split item sets show up — the First Mate Band from Captain Greenskin pairs with a level 60 epic for +20 Strength and a proc — so the instance is worth farming either way.
Do you still need the Mining profession?
Yes, if you want more than 30 swings at a node. Rockslicer unlocks the gathering action, not the profession: it is an equipped tool with a use counter, and nothing Blizzard has said suggests it grants skill points, smelting, or the Mining-linked perks.
Real Mining still pays for itself in Forever. Legacy Points come the first time each tradeskill hits 150, 225 and 300; the Professions tree has Bountiful Harvest for extra materials from mining, herbalism and skinning; and campsite buffs are profession-gated — the Mining campfire object grants melee attack power and, at its second tier, spawns a common node right at camp.

You keep the weapon. That is the part people misread: the charges cover the mining ability, not the item's lifespan, so it does not vanish from your bags like a consumable. Whether it can be recharged in any way has not been stated.
Can Rockslicer mine Mithril or Thorium?
The confirmed list is Copper, Tin, Silver and Iron — four low-to-mid ores. Nothing above Iron has been mentioned, so plan around it topping out in the 30s-40s node range rather than carrying you to Thorium. For anything past that, you need the actual profession on the character.
One more caveat worth repeating: this all comes from the beta, which runs September 17 to October 21 and is still changing weekly. Charges, ore list and drop source can all be tuned before November 4.
If you'd rather land at launch with Mining already maxed instead of chasing nodes for a week, PewPewShop's vetted human players handle that as play-together and coaching work — Mining Profession Boost from EUR 28, or Forever Profession Leveling 1–300 from EUR 29. Launch work is queued for November 4; beta help starts within a day.
