Rogue 1-60WoW: Forever Leveling BoostFor players who want a vetted pro to level alongside them or coach their rogue rotation from the start, including when Shank opens up at 24.from 9 EURSee options What level do rogues get Shank in WoW: Forever?
Rogues learn Shank at level 24, and Rank 2 comes at level 44. The rank upgrade increases the Energy it generates from 15 to 25. The cost and the cooldown stay the same.
Shank was added to Forever in the launch notes, so older Classic rogue guides do not cover it.
How does Shank change rogue energy in Forever?
Shank works out to about +10 Energy every 10 seconds at Rank 1 and +20 at Rank 2, along with a hit that cannot miss. That is your normal regeneration plus a free top-up you can use on cooldown.
In practice, use it whenever it is ready and you are not capped on Energy. Pressing it at full Energy wastes the gain. The notes call it an off-hand strike, so it is clearly designed for dual-wielding rogues. They do not say what happens if you have no off-hand weapon equipped.
Forever Secondary Skills: Cooking, First Aid & FishingAll three secondary skills to 300 on your character.from 282 EURGet it doneHow does Poised work, and does it help in dungeons?
Poised lowers the cost of your first Energy ability by 10 if you start it out of combat at maximum Energy. That covers your opener from stealth and the first hit on each pull.
It does the most in dungeons and while questing, where you start fights all the time. If you wait a moment for full Energy before every pull, you get the discount every time. In a long boss fight it only affects the opener.
Do druids get Poised too?
Yes. Druids learn Poised at level 32, according to the same launch notes. It does the same thing: out of combat at full Energy, the next Energy ability costs 10 less. Cat Form is the Energy form, so that is where it matters.
Shank is listed for rogues only. Feral druids get their own Energy tool, Shifting Power, which turns mana into Energy.
What else changed for rogue Energy and damage at launch?
Apart from Shank and Poised, the launch notes double the attack power scaling on Deadly Poison and Instant Poison and remove Murder. Blizzard also raised damage for all classes and increased the health of higher-level creatures to match.
Earlier, Blizzard's class video summary said Subtlety's Energy recovers continuously. The Rogue deep dive added two Energy discounts: Flawless Execution (Eviscerate costs less; the launch notes raise the discount to 15 Energy, was 10) and Thousand Cuts (Rupture ticks make the next Hemorrhage or Backstab cheaper). Principal Designer Kris Zierhut has said the design goal is for rogues to have the highest single-target damage on a standstill fight. That is a stated goal, not a measured result.
Will Shank and Poised change before raids?
Probably not before December 9, unless one of them is a serious outlier or bugged. Blizzard said big tuning changes are not planned until raids open. It expects a larger pass after it has data from players beyond level 30.
If you would rather learn the new rogue rotation alongside an experienced player, PewPewShop's vetted human players offer leveling help and coaching for Forever from launch day, starting from 9 EUR.
Frequently asked questions
What does Shank do in WoW: Forever?
Shank is a rogue ability learned at level 24. It costs 5 Energy, has a 10-second cooldown, cannot miss, and strikes with the off-hand for 50% weapon damage while generating 15 Energy. Rank 2 at level 44 raises the Energy gain to 25. It was added in Blizzard's November 2 launch development notes.
What is Poised in WoW: Forever?
Poised is a passive ability. When you are out of combat at maximum Energy, your next Energy-costing ability costs 10 less. Rogues learn it at level 18 and druids at level 32. It makes openers and the first hit of every pull cheaper, which helps most in dungeons and while leveling.
Do druids get Shank in WoW: Forever?
No. Blizzard's launch notes list Shank for rogues only. Druids get Poised at level 32 instead, which cuts the cost of their first Energy ability by 10 when they start from full Energy out of combat. Feral druids also have Shifting Power, a talent that converts mana into Energy.
What other rogue changes came with the WoW: Forever launch notes?
Besides Shank and Poised, the November 2 launch notes double the attack power scaling of Deadly Poison and Instant Poison and remove Murder. Blizzard also raised damage across all classes and increased the health of higher-level creatures to compensate, moving away from the original Classic power budgets.
Are rogues strong in WoW: Forever?
Blizzard's stated design goal is for rogues to have the highest single-target damage on a standstill boss fight, mechanics aside. That comes from Principal Designer Kris Zierhut and is a goal, not measured data. Blizzard expects a large tuning pass after launch, so real balance will only show once players reach endgame.
