Warlockguy won the Forever Open playing a Warlock. The runner-up was also a Warlock, so the class took the top two spots as well as the best overall win rate.
Wowhead did not explain the result, but at level 30 a Warlock already has damage over time, a pet that does real work, and drains that heal while they hurt. In a straight duel that combination outlasts most opponents.
Why did Mages and Warriors do so badly in the beta tournament?
Mage and Warrior posted the lowest win rates, 25% and 27%. Wowhead gave no reason; level 30 duels likely exposed their weak spots. Warriors depend on gear and on reaching the target. Mages at that level have only part of their kit, and the beta changed their slow: Frost Blast at level 24 replaced the Rank 1 Frostbolt slow because downranking is now penalised.
Do not write either class off. Blizzard said in September that lower critical-strike damage in beta PvP was a bug, and it did not say whether the fix landed before the tournament. Burst classes rely on crits more than anyone.

Probably a strong one, but nobody can call it the best at 60 yet. The tournament ran on the beta at level 30, and talents and tuning were still changing every week.
The final Warlock kit does look strong in PvP. Per Blizzard's Rogue and Warlock deep dive, Curse of Agony and Curse of Doom become Banes (one Bane per Warlock on a target), Curse of the Elements now covers all magic damage, Life Tap scales with Spirit, and pets scale with the Warlock's stats. Destruction gets Conflagrate at 16 points, Bane of Havoc at 21 and Incinerate at 31. Demonology reaches Soul Link at 21 and Demonic Pact at 31.
Which Warlock spec is best for PvP in Forever?
No spec is a proven winner yet, because Blizzard's notes on Affliction talents were published incorrectly. Blizzard describes Affliction only as damage over time and draining, with full crit viability and self-healing through drains, which fits drawn-out duels and world PvP.
Destruction is the burst option, with Conflagrate and the new Incinerate. Demonology with Soul Link is the tanky option for players who get focused in battlegrounds. In practice, pick by role: Affliction to outlast, Destruction to finish kills, Demonology to survive.
What is the best class for battlegrounds and Honor ranks?
For battlegrounds, bring a class your team needs rather than the duel champion. Healers and classes with interrupts or crowd control decide objective fights, and Darkspear Islands is a 15v15 map with capture points and a flag.
Know the published gaps before you roll. Paladins still have no interrupt and no slow. Hunters cannot stun or interrupt and keep the 8-yard dead zone. Druids cannot snare, silence or interrupt. Rogues gain a lot, since Sap no longer breaks Stealth. Warriors get Spearing Strike, which dismounts players.
If you would rather climb with someone who knows the maps, PewPewShop's Forever PvP sessions with vetted human players start from 3 EUR and begin when WoW: Forever launches on November 4.
Frequently asked questions
What class won the WoW: Forever Open tournament?
A Warlock. The winner, Warlockguy, played a Warlock, and the second-place player was also a Warlock. Across the whole $100,000 community tournament on the level 30 beta, Warlocks had a 79% win rate, the highest of any class, according to Wowhead's report of October 26, 2026.
Is Warlock good in WoW: Forever PvP?
Yes, based on everything seen so far. Warlocks dominated the beta Forever Open duel tournament, and Blizzard's deep dive adds strong tools: Banes, Curse of the Elements covering all magic damage, pets that scale with the Warlock, and Spirit-scaling Life Tap. Level 60 balance at launch can still change.
What is the worst PvP class in WoW: Forever?
In the beta Forever Open, Mage had the lowest win rate at 25% and Warrior was close behind at 27%. Those were level 30 duels on the beta, and Blizzard called lower PvP crit damage on the beta a bug, so neither class should be judged final from these numbers.
Does WoW: Forever have arenas or rated PvP?
No. Blizzard has said Forever has no rated PvP and has not announced arenas. PvP progression uses Honor and Rank Points from battlegrounds and PvP quests, with a 14-rank track that resets each PvP season. The Bloodmasters Ring in the Riverglades is a PvE quest against ogre brawlers, not an arena.
Who organized the Forever Open?
The Forever Open was a community tournament hosted by Tipsout, a former YouTuber, not an official Blizzard event. It had a $100,000 prize pool, about 6,000 participants and was streamed by Xaryu and Esfand. Blizzard supported it with a dueling arena in Hyjal Crater and a separate finals area on Mount Hyjal.
