Horde Shaman racials at launch

The table uses the launch values from Blizzard's October 26 racial tuning pass, along with the October 15 beta notes where the October 26 post left a race unchanged. Blizzard can still adjust any of these numbers before or after November 4.

The shift that settles the old argument is simple. In Classic, Orc's case came from Axe Specialization and Blood Fury. At launch, Axe Specialization is not coming back. Orc's replacement passive was swapped for pet damage, which a Shaman never uses.

Is Orc still worth it for an Enhancement Shaman?

An Orc Enhancement Shaman is viable, but the margin has shrunk to one cooldown. Enhancement in Forever uses two-handed weapons only, and Blood Fury lines up well with Rage of the Farseer, a 3-minute cooldown that raises attack speed.

Blizzard has not published what Blood Fury grants a Shaman in Forever, and its cooldown is now 3 minutes instead of 2. If you love the burst and pick fights in world PvP, Orc still works. If you only want the best numbers, Orc no longer wins on paper.

Why do Tauren Shamans come out ahead?

Tauren come out ahead because every Tauren racial does something useful for a Shaman. In the October 26 pass, Endurance became a flat +5% Health, which helps healers survive raid damage and helps Enhancement in melee.

Plainsrunning is the sleeper pick. At 2% per stack up to 60%, built through real movement rather than stutter-stepping, it saves real time on foot before you have a mount. War Stomp is an area stun on a 90-second cooldown that interrupts a whole pack of casters in a dungeon pull. Cultivation adds free herbs every 15 minutes, which pays for potions while you level.

Orc or Troll Shaman?

For a Shaman, Troll is the stronger choice of the two at launch. Troll Regeneration was raised to a 20% health regeneration bonus, which means fewer pauses to eat between pulls. Josh Greenfield also named the Troll active racial alongside Orc's as possibly too strong.

The October 26 post did not mention Troll, so the October 15 beta value is the latest published number. Orc only pulls ahead if you specifically want Shatter Curse against curse-heavy fights or Warlocks.

Is a Windshaper Skyborne Shaman better than both?

On raw throughput, yes. Wind-Blessed gives +2% haste, and it is the only always-on haste passive any Horde Shaman race gets at launch. It helps Elemental casts, Restoration heals and Enhancement swings alike.

Skysight adds +15% run speed for 15 seconds, rising to +30% for an hour after you use it at an elemental convergence. Walk on Air lets you glide off cliffs. The catch is the Skyborne Heroic Pack, and the race has no SD model until early 2027.

Does race matter for Restoration and Elemental?

Race matters least for Restoration and Elemental Shamans, and that gap is small. Totems such as Windfury, Strength of Earth and Grace of Air are now raid-wide, and Mana Tide, Chain Heal and Lava Burst carry far more weight than any racial.

For a healer, Tauren's +5% Health is the most useful racial, because the healer is usually the one who dies when a pull goes wrong. For Elemental, a Windshaper's 2% haste pulls slightly ahead. In practice, gear and talents will decide far more parses than race.

If you would rather level alongside a vetted human player than grind every bracket alone, PewPewShop offers coaching and progression help from November 4, with a full 1-60 at from 990 EUR. Whatever race you choose, the honest advice is the same: pick the one you will enjoy looking at for a thousand hours.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best Horde Shaman race in WoW: Forever?

After Blizzard's October 26 racial tuning pass, Tauren is the safest all-round choice thanks to +5% Health, War Stomp and Plainsrunning. Windshaper Skyborne has the only always-on haste passive, +2%, but it requires the Skyborne Heroic Pack. Orc lost its Shaman-relevant passive and keeps mainly Blood Fury.

Did Orc lose Axe Specialization in WoW: Forever?

Yes. Blizzard confirmed weapon specialization racials will not return at launch, because raid and dungeon loot should not depend on a required weapon type. The replacement passive, Savage, was also removed on October 26. In its place Orc gets Command, which raises Warlock and Hunter pet damage by 5%.

Can Alliance play Shaman in WoW: Forever?

Yes. Dwarf Shaman is one of the six new race and class combinations Blizzard announced for Forever. Shaman is no longer Horde-only. On the Horde side, Windshaper Skyborne can also be Shamans, while their Alliance counterpart, the High Order, can be Mages instead.

What does Tauren Plainsrunning do in WoW: Forever?

Plainsrunning builds movement speed while you actually travel on foot. It gives 2% per stack up to a maximum of 60% after the October 26 tuning pass. It no longer affects mounted speed, and stutter-stepping does not keep it active, so it rewards real running between quest hubs.

Does race matter much for a Shaman in WoW: Forever?

Only a little. Blizzard says it prioritised racial identity, so some races are slightly better in certain roles. Talents, totems, gear and play quality still matter far more. Pick the race you enjoy, then use racials to break a tie between two options you already like.
