Battleground Blitz queues run long mainly because of healer shortage: every 8v8 match needs four healers out of sixteen players, so DPS wait while the matchmaker hunts for them. Queue as a healer or at evening prime time and the wait usually drops to a few minutes; a DPS queuing off-peak or at very high rating can sit for 20–40 minutes.
What decides your Blitz queue time
- Role. Each team gets two healers and six DPS. Healer queues are typically the shortest in the whole rated PvP system; DPS queues are the longest.
- Time of day. Evening on your region's server time is the sweet spot. Early morning and mid-afternoon on a weekday are the dead zones.
- Rating bracket. The matchmaker tries to build a match from players near your rating. Around the middle of the ladder the pool is deep; very high (and very low) ratings have thin pools and long waits.
- Region. Blitz is region-wide, so it's not your realm's fault — but a small region simply has fewer people queuing.
- Stuck queues. If you've been in queue far longer than the displayed average, leave and re-queue. A stale queue occasionally never resolves.
Five things that actually shorten the wait
- Bring a healer. If you have a healer alt with a reasonable ilvl, that's the single biggest fix. Blitz rating is per character, so the alt starts fresh.
- Queue in prime time. Roughly 18:00–23:00 server time on weekdays, longer windows on weekends.
- Don't tab out and forget. A missed queue pop means a deserter timer and the whole wait again.
- Re-queue after 15–20 minutes if the estimate says less. Fresh queues get re-evaluated by the matchmaker.
- Queue while doing something else in the world. World quests, delves and gathering all run fine while you wait — just stay near a spot you can leave instantly.
Why is Blitz queue longer for DPS than for healers?
Simple ratio. The matchmaker needs a healer for every three DPS, and far fewer people play healers than DPS. Each match also needs those four healers to sit close to each other in rating, which narrows the pool even further. That's why a DPS at the same rating and same hour waits several times longer than a healer.
It's the same reason Solo Shuffle DPS queues balloon: the format only starts when the healer slots fill.
Does high rating make the Blitz queue longer?
Yes. Once you climb past the bulk of the ladder, the matchmaker has very few players near your rating. It widens the acceptable range over time, but you'll still see long waits at the top, especially outside prime time. Players pushing the highest brackets usually plan sessions around peak hours for exactly this reason.
The opposite is also true: a brand-new character with no rating sits in the biggest pool and usually pops quickly.
Is Battleground Blitz solo queue only?
Blitz is built around solo and small-group queuing rather than a full pre-made. That's what keeps it accessible, but it also means the matchmaker has to assemble sixteen individually rated players into two balanced teams every time — more moving parts than a 3v3 or Solo Shuffle lobby, which is part of why the queue can feel sluggish.
How long is a normal Blitz queue?
As a rough guide from regular play: healers often pop within 1–5 minutes at prime time; DPS at mid rating typically wait 5–15 minutes at prime time and noticeably longer off-peak. Anything beyond 30 minutes on a DPS at a normal rating is worth a re-queue. The in-game estimate is based on recent matches, so treat it as a hint, not a promise.
