There is no single farm that fills 16 slots in a night. What actually works is treating each week as a checklist and never leaving a source unused, because every one of them is capped and unused caps don't roll over.
The weekly gearing checklist, in order of value
- Catch-up campaign and world content first. A fresh or returning character gets a big free jump from the current expansion's intro questline, world quest rewards and the weekly event. Do this before anything else — it's the cheapest item level you will ever get.
- Mythic+ dungeons. The single best throughput source. Every timed run drops loot at the end, and each run also builds your Great Vault. This is where most of a full set actually comes from.
- Raid, normal then heroic. Bosses drop across every slot and it's the only reliable source of tier set pieces. Normal difficulty is very PUG-friendly.
- Great Vault, every week. Your reward for the week's runs. Never skip claiming it, and never claim it before Tuesday reset gives you the full choice.
- Catalyst charges. Convert a non-tier drop in a slot you're stuck on into the tier piece for that slot. This is how people finish a 4-set without ever seeing the token drop.
- Crafted gear. Two crafted slots let you deliberately fill your two worst pieces instead of hoping. Combine with a crafting order from a maxed-out crafter for a high item level result.
- PvP, if you play it. Honor gear gives a full set fast and cheaply at a solid baseline, and conquest gear scales up with rating. For a lot of players this is genuinely the quickest route to "full set" as a number.
What is the actual fastest way to gear a fresh max-level character?
Finish the current expansion's story and world content, then start pushing low Mythic+ keys immediately. Low keys are forgiving, fast, and every run counts toward your Vault. Within one week most players go from quest greens to a respectable dungeon-level set.
If you'd rather not touch group content at all, honor gear is the answer. It's the most predictable full set in the game — a fixed cost per slot, no loot rolls, no bad luck.
How long does a full gear set actually take?
Realistically, a full baseline set takes a few days of steady play. A full high-end set is a multi-week project because the best sources are weekly-capped by design — Vault picks, catalyst charges and raid lockouts all reset once a week.
Anyone promising a full mythic-level set overnight is either wrong or describing something you don't want near your account. Pacing is built into the system.
Should I upgrade gear or save currency?
Upgrade your worst slots first, not your favourites. Item level gaps hurt most where you're weakest, and upgrading a slot you're about to replace from a raid drop is wasted currency. Trinkets and weapons are the exception — they're worth investing in early because their impact is far above their item level.
Do I need a tier set before chasing item level?
Yes, usually. For most specs a 4-piece tier bonus outperforms several item levels of random upgrades. Get to 4-set through drops and the catalyst first, then chase raw item level everywhere else.
