Renown is World of Warcraft's level-based reputation system. Each major faction has its own Renown track, and every rank you earn unlocks a fixed, previewable reward: recipes, transmog, toys, mounts or the next chapter of a campaign. You gain Renown from zone story quests, weekly quests, world quests, rares and treasures. Open the Reputation panel with Shift+J to see your rank and everything still ahead.

Renown at a glance

  • Where to check it: press Shift+J, open the Reputation tab, click a faction. The track lists every rank and the exact reward attached to it, including ranks you have not reached yet.
  • How it differs from old reputation: no Friendly/Honored/Revered wording and no reputation bar to squint at. Each rank costs a set amount of faction reputation, and the rank number is the progress.
  • It never goes down. Ranks are permanent. You cannot lose Renown by skipping a week or ignoring a faction for a patch.
  • It is account-wide in modern expansions. Renown is shared across your Warband, so alts start where your main left off instead of grinding the same track again.
  • Main sources: the leveling campaign, weekly faction quests, world quests, weekly event quests, rares and treasure chests in the faction's zone, and reputation-granting items you loot or buy.

What is Renown rank 4 in WoW?

Renown 4 is an early rank you will usually pass within the first evening of questing in a faction's zone, often just from the story campaign alone. There is no universal Renown 4 reward: what unlocks depends entirely on which faction's track you are looking at, and it is commonly a starter item like a recipe, a cosmetic, a tabard or the next campaign chapter.

Do not guess it. Open the Reputation panel, click the faction, and scroll the track. The game shows you the exact rank 4 reward, and every rank after it, before you earn it. That preview is the fastest way to decide whether a faction is worth pushing at all.

How do you level Renown fastest?

Clear the zone campaign first, because story quests hand out the largest single chunks of faction reputation. Then set a weekly routine: the faction's weekly quest, the rotating weekly event, and any world quests that award that faction. Sweep rares and treasure chests while you are in the zone, since many drop reputation items on top of the kill.

Save any consumable reputation tokens until you actually need the last push to a rank, and remember that catch-up gains in older content are generous. A faction from a previous patch typically moves several ranks faster than it did on release.

What is the maximum Renown rank?

It depends on the expansion and the faction. Most current-expansion factions cap in the mid-twenties, with a handful of ranks added by later patches. Shadowlands covenants were the outlier: that Renown track climbed far higher over the expansion's lifetime, up to rank 80 by the end.

Is Renown shared between characters?

In current expansions, yes. Renown is Warband-wide, so a fresh alt inherits the ranks your main already earned and gets access to the same rewards and vendors. Older expansion tracks vary, so check the faction panel on the alt before assuming you need to repeat anything.
