There is no single fixed number — Blizzard caps WoW Tokens by time and balance, not by quantity. With gold you buy them one at a time from the Auction House, as often as your gold allows. With real money, purchases are limited by Blizzard's rolling shop limits and payment verification, and the game time you redeem cannot push your account past 24 months of accrued time.

So the honest answer to "how many" is: as many as your gold, your payment method and your remaining game time headroom allow. Here are the ceilings that actually bind you.

  • Gold purchases: handled through the Token tab of the Auction House. You take one Token at a time and use it before lining up the next — it is a repeat loop, not a bulk order.
  • Your gold ceiling: a single character can hold just under 10 million gold. Divide your gold by the live Token price and that is your practical maximum per character.
  • Game time ceiling: a WoW account cannot hold more than 24 months of accrued game time. Once you are at the ceiling, redeeming another Token for time is blocked until some of it burns down.
  • Real-money ceiling: Blizzard applies its own purchase limits and fraud checks to shop orders. New accounts, new payment methods and unusual buying patterns get tighter treatment.
  • Balance route: in supported regions a Token can be redeemed for Battle.net Balance instead of game time, and Balance has its own regional cap.
  • Region lock: Token markets are regional. A Token bought on one region's market cannot be moved to another.

Is there a cap on how many Tokens you can buy with gold?

Not a fixed count, no. The Auction House keeps you to one Token at a time, so you buy, redeem or mail it, then repeat. The real limits are your gold reserve and — if you keep redeeming for game time — the 24-month accrual cap.

Token prices float with server-side supply and demand, so the number you can afford this week may look very different next month. Check the price in the Token tab before assuming your stack covers a year.

How many Tokens can you buy with real money at once?

The shop is built for buying one at a time, and Blizzard's payment and anti-fraud systems decide how many you can stack in a short window. Large back-to-back orders, a freshly added card or a new account will often get held or declined. If a purchase is refused, that is a payment review, not a bug — Blizzard's support team is the only place that can lift it.

What happens if you hit the 24-month game time cap?

The redemption is simply refused. You can hold the Token and use it later, or — where the option exists in your region — convert it to Battle.net Balance instead so it is not sitting idle. Nothing is lost; you just cannot bank more than two years of subscription at once.

Do Tokens expire in your bags?

A Token you bought with gold does not rot on a timer. It sits in your inventory or mail until you consume it. The thing that changes is the market: a Token you paid a high price for still redeems for exactly the same game time later, regardless of where the price moved.
