TBC Classic has no leader-triggered Role Poll button like later expansions. Roles are set by each player in the Looking for Group tool: press I, tick Tank, Healer or Damage, and the role shows on your listing and group frames. To role check a raid, the leader opens the Raid tab (O), runs a Ready Check, and asks for a quick 1/2/3 count in /raid or uses a raid addon that adds a poll.
Role check in TBC Classic, step by step
- Set your own role: press I (or click the Group Finder eye on the micro-menu) to open Looking for Group. Tick Tank, Healer and/or Damage. This is what the tool shows other players and what counts as your "role" in TBC Classic.
- Leader: open the raid panel: press O for Social, then the Raid tab. Here you convert to raid, assign assistants and see everyone's group slot.
- Run a Ready Check: click Ready Check in the Raid tab or type /readycheck. This confirms who is present and paying attention, not what they are playing.
- Count roles in chat: post "1 = tank, 2 = heal, 3 = dps" in /raid and have everyone reply. In a 25-man this takes about 20 seconds and is what most pug leaders actually do.
- Or use an addon: several raid-management addons for TBC Classic add a role poll popup and role icons to the raid frames. If you lead pugs weekly, that saves you the chat count every time.

Is there a /rolecheck command in TBC Classic?
No. The only built-in raid command of that kind is /readycheck, which asks "Are you ready?" and shows green or red icons next to names. There is no slash command that asks players to pick tank, healer or DPS, which is why leaders fall back to chat counts or an addon.
Do not confuse it with the LFG tool's role boxes: those are per-player settings you tick before you list yourself, and they carry over when you join a group from the tool.
Why do role icons not show on my raid frames?
The stock TBC Classic raid frames were built for the 2.4.3 feature set, before Blizzard added role icons and the role poll in Wrath of the Lich King. Roles you tick in the LFG tool are visible in the tool and to whoever invites you from it, but the default frames do not draw a shield, cross or sword next to each name.
If you want that view, install a raid frame addon that supports TBC Classic and lets the leader set or poll roles. Many also mark main tanks and off-tanks, which is more useful in Karazhan or Gruul's Lair than the generic "tank" tag anyway.
How do I set main tank and main assist in TBC Classic?
Open the Raid tab, right-click a player's name and use the menu, or use the commands /maintank and /mainassist on your current target. Main tank and main assist roles are the ones TBC Classic tracks natively, and they are what your healers and DPS addons key off, not the tank/healer/DPS split from a role check.
How does role selection work in the TBC Classic LFG tool?
Press I, choose the dungeon, raid or activity you want, tick every role you can fill and click List. Other players browsing the tool see your class, level and roles and can invite you directly. Group leaders can list a group with the roles they still need, so a healer looking for a Heroic run sees "needs healer" groups first. It is a browser, not a matchmaker: nobody gets auto-assigned, so a quick chat confirmation once the group is formed still matters.
