  3. Delves: solo or small-group content with its own reward tiers. Higher tiers drop better loot and unlock Vault slots — the best route for players without a raid team.
  4. Mythic+: each key level raises the end-of-dungeon reward, and every dungeon you time adds a Great Vault option. This is where most player item levels come from.
  5. Raids: LFR → Normal → Heroic → Mythic, each tier a clear step up. Set bonuses come from tier slots here or through the Catalyst.
  6. Great Vault: once per week, pick one item from your best dungeon, raid or world activity. Often the single biggest weekly jump.

  • Gear comes on tracks (Veteran, Champion, Hero, Myth). A piece can only be upgraded within its own track, so a Hero-track item from a high key beats a fully upgraded Champion item.
  • Crests drop from dungeons, Delves and raids at matching difficulty. Higher content, better crests, higher upgrade ceiling.
  • Trinkets, weapons and set pieces move your damage far more than a few ilvl on boots — prioritise them.
  • Your displayed item level is an average of equipped slots, so an empty or badly outdated slot drags the whole number down.

What is the fastest way to raise item level in a single week?

Clear every Mythic 0 once, then time as many Mythic+ keys as you can at the highest level you finish comfortably. Add a Delve or two for extra Vault options. Spend crests on your weapon and trinkets first. On reset, collect the Vault item and repeat one key level higher.

Players who do this consistently outpace those who only raid, because dungeon loot arrives several times per night while a raid boss drops loot once.

Do I need to raid to reach a high item level?

No. Mythic+ plus the Great Vault can carry a character to near the top of the ilvl range without stepping into a raid. Raiding still matters for tier set pieces and certain trinkets, but Delves and keys are a complete gearing path on their own.

Why is my item level stuck?

Usually one of three things: you are farming content whose drops are below your gear, you have run out of the right crest type to upgrade further, or you skip the weekly Vault. Check the lowest slot on your character sheet — that is the piece to target next.

Should I upgrade old gear or wait for drops?

Upgrade weapons, trinkets and set pieces right away; those slots are worth the crests. For rings, cloaks and bracers, wait if you are about to move up a key level, because a fresh drop from a higher track will overtake the upgraded piece anyway.
