You cannot manually reset Zul'Gurub in WoW Classic — as a raid instance, it only resets on its own timer. ZG runs on a 3-day raid lockout that rolls over during the weekly server reset window (early morning on your realm's maintenance day, Tuesday in the US and Wednesday in the EU). Leaving the group or zoning out changes nothing; only the timer clears it.

The confusion is understandable. In five-man dungeons you right-click your own portrait and hit Reset all instances, and the place is fresh. That option is greyed out or simply does nothing for raid IDs, and ZG is a raid — a 20-player one, with its entrance in Stranglethorn Vale near the Yojamba Isle side of the zone.

Quick facts

  • Instance type: 20-player raid, so it uses a raid ID, not a dungeon lockout.
  • Lockout length: 3 days.
  • Manual reset: not possible. The right-click reset only affects 5-man instances.
  • When it clears: at your realm's daily reset hour on the third day, aligned to the same early-morning window as weekly resets.
  • Region timing: US realms roll on Tuesday, EU realms on Wednesday — your ZG cycle is anchored to that clock.
  • Check your lockout: open the Raid Info panel (Social window → Raid tab → Raid Info) to see the exact expiry time for your saved ID.

What to do instead of resetting

  1. Open Raid Info and confirm whether you are actually saved. If no boss died, you may not be locked at all.
  2. If you are saved and want a fresh clear now, join a group whose ID has not killed the bosses you need — you inherit the leader's ID when you zone in unsaved.
  3. If you already have a saved ID and try to enter a different one, the game will ask you to leave your current instance binding — you cannot be saved to two ZG IDs at once.
  4. If you only need trash farm and not bosses, note that trash respawns on its own schedule inside the raid without touching the boss lockout.

When does ZG reset in WoW Classic?

Every three days, at the same early-morning hour your realm uses for its scheduled reset. Because the cycle is three days rather than seven, the day of the week shifts — that is why ZG feels like it lands on a different day than your Molten Core or BWL night.

The reliable way to know your personal timer is the Raid Info window. It shows a countdown for each saved instance, and that countdown is authoritative for your character regardless of what a general guide says.

Why does the "Reset all instances" option not work for ZG?

That command clears 5-man dungeon instances you are currently in or recently left. Raids are tracked by a saved ID tied to your character and shared by everyone in the group, so a client-side reset would break the shared-lockout system entirely. Blizzard never allowed it for raids.

You are also limited in how many instances you can enter per hour, which is what most players run into when they spam-reset dungeons for farming — again, a 5-man mechanic, not a raid one.

Can I run ZG more than once per lockout?

You can zone in as often as you like, but bosses you have already killed on that ID stay dead until the lockout expires. The only way to see them alive again is a new ID — either your own after the reset, or someone else's fresh ID you join while unsaved.

Does leaving the raid group reset my ZG lockout?

No. Once a boss dies while you are inside, your character is saved to that ID. Dropping group, logging out, or being converted back to a party changes nothing about the save.
