The fastest TBC Anniversary Blacksmithing route crafts in blocks: Rough Sharpening and Grinding Stones to 65, copper belts and gauntlets to 125, Rough Bronze Leggings to 160, Green Iron gear to 205, steel and mithril pieces to 270, Earthforged or Windforged Leggings to 290, then Fel Iron plate in Outland to 345 and Adamantite and Felsteel recipes to 375. - Train every rank: the skill cap rises in tiers (75, 150, 225, 300, 375), and you must visit a trainer at each step or skill-ups stop.
- Stockpile grinding stones early: Rough, Coarse and Heavy Grinding Stones feed later recipes.
- Expect slower points in green: 290-300 and the end of 345-360 run on green recipes, so budget a few extra crafts.
Why does a recipe stop giving skill?
Each recipe has three thresholds. Below its yellow number it is orange and gives a point every craft; between yellow and green it usually does; in green it only sometimes does; at its grey number it gives nothing. Mithril Coif, for example, is yellow at 250, green at 260 and grey at 270, so it is reliable up to 260.
What is the most expensive part of the route?
Two stretches. At 270-300 the leggings each need two elemental reagents on top of 16 Mithril Bars. At 345-375 you need Adamantite, Felsteel and Primal elements. The Fel Iron block from 300 to 345 is the cheapest in Outland, especially if you mine your own ore.
Is there a cheaper option for 360-375?
From the trainer list, Felsteel Whisper Knives is the lightest recipe at that level; the 360 weapons and chests such as Lionheart Blade or Thunder need Khorium, Hardened Adamantite or Primal Might. Many reputation patterns exist as well, so check the quartermasters of factions you are already Honored or Revered with before you buy primals.
Should I take Mining alongside Blacksmithing?
Yes, for most players. Almost every step above is bars, and smelting your own copper, bronze, iron, mithril and Fel Iron cuts the cost of leveling a lot.
