Press B and look at the bottom of your backpack frame — the gold, silver and copper numbers there are your current balance. That total belongs only to the character you are logged into, not your whole account. Need the exact figure in chat? Type /run print(GetMoney()); it prints your balance in copper, so divide by 10,000 for gold.
The fast ways to check
- Bags: press B (or Shift+B to open every bag). The money line sits at the bottom of the backpack window.
- Chat macro: /run print(GetMoney()) returns copper. 1,234,567,890 copper = 123,456 gold, 78 silver, 90 copper.
- Conversion: 100 copper = 1 silver, 100 silver = 1 gold.
- Cap: a single character can hold 9,999,999 gold, 99 silver, 99 copper.
- Warband Bank: open any bank and check the shared gold tab — that pool is separate from what is in your pockets.
- Not on the website: the Armory and the Battle.net app do not display gold. You have to log in.
How do I see how much gold I have on all my characters?
The base game will not add it up for you. The two practical options are the Warband Bank — park your gold there and it is visible and usable from every character on the account — or an addon that remembers each alt. Altoholic and TradeSkillMaster both keep a per-character gold list after you have logged into each toon once, and show a grand total.
Without an addon, the manual method still works: log each alt in, press B, write the number down. Tedious with twelve characters, fine with three.
Is gold shared between characters now?
Not automatically. Gold is still stored per character. What changed with the Warband Bank is that moving it is trivial — deposit on one character, withdraw on another, no mail, no trade window, no waiting. So in practice most players treat their Warband gold as the account balance and whatever is in their bags as pocket change.
Why does my gold keep dropping when I have not bought anything?
Repairs, flight paths, auction house deposit fees and reagent purchases are the usual culprits, and none of them announce themselves. Cancelled or expired auctions eat the deposit. An addon like Accountant logs every incoming and outgoing copper by source, which is the only reliable way to see where a few thousand gold went during a raid night.
How do I check my gold in WoW Classic?
Exactly the same way — press B and read the bottom of the backpack. The /run print(GetMoney()) macro works there too. Classic and Hardcore realms have no Warband Bank, so every character's gold really is isolated; moving it between your own alts means mail or a trusted trade.
