There is no single "best" quest order in Midnight — the expansion's campaign is a linear, chapter-gated story that unlocks zone by zone, so the game sets the order for you. What you actually control is what you do alongside it: run the campaign first for the flight-path and hub unlocks, then loop back for side quests, rares and reputation once everything is open.
That answer frustrates people, so here's the honest reason behind it. Modern WoW expansions since Battle for Azeroth gate the leveling campaign into chapters. A chapter finishes, the next one opens, and the zone it points you at is where the quests are. You cannot skip ahead to "the fast zone" — there isn't one, because the chapter you haven't completed simply won't hand you quests.
The order that actually saves time
- Campaign first, everything else second. The campaign unlocks flight paths, hearthstone-adjacent hubs, world quests and the endgame systems. Detouring into side content early means walking everywhere.
- Pick up side quests only if they're on your path. Yellow exclamation marks along the campaign route are free XP. Ones three minutes off-route are not.
- Don't stop to gear up while leveling. Quest greens replace themselves every few levels. Anything you farm at level 71 is vendor trash at 80.
- Finish the campaign before touching reputation. Rep gains are far faster at max level with world quests and weekly caps open.
- Then go back. Side quests, exploration, rares and treasures are worth far more once they're a max-level checklist instead of a leveling detour.
Does quest order affect how fast I level?
Barely. WoW scales quest XP to your level, so a zone doesn't become "efficient" by being done at a specific point. The real time sinks are travel and backtracking, not sequence. Following the campaign breadcrumb minimizes both, which is why it beats any hand-made route.
If you want raw speed, the bigger levers are rested XP, heirlooms or level-boost consumables, a guild XP bonus, and grouping with a friend — each of those moves the needle more than reordering zones.
Should I do the campaign on my alts too?
Usually not the full thing. Expansions typically flag most campaign progress as account-wide once your first character clears it, letting alts skip straight to the endgame chain. If that's live in Midnight, run the campaign properly on your main and let alts take the shortcut.
What about the questline that unlocks endgame content?
Finish the main campaign to its conclusion before worrying about anything else. In every recent expansion, the endgame unlocks — dungeon and raid access chains, the seasonal system, the flying unlock — sit at the end of the campaign or immediately after it. Half-finishing the story is the single most common reason a player finds themselves locked out of content their friends are already running.
What do I do the moment the campaign is done?
Gear up for the season. Run normal and heroic dungeons for a baseline item level, then move to Mythic+ and raiding. This is where the actual expansion begins, and where most players stall — not in the questing.
Quick reference
| Campaign structure | Chapter-gated, largely linear |
| Optimal order | Campaign → max level → side content |
| Side quests while leveling | Only if on-route |
| Reputation grinding | After max level, not during |
| Real speed levers | Rested XP, guild bonus, grouping |
