Battleground Blitz is built as a solo-queue mode — you sign up alone in the PvP tab and matchmaking assembles both 8-player teams, so a duo cannot lock in together the way a party can for Rated Battlegrounds. Queue rules have shifted between seasons, so check the Blitz entry in-game; if you want guaranteed teammates, RBG is the group format.

Quick facts

  • Format: 8v8 rated battlegrounds, short objective-based maps, one map per match.
  • How you enter: Player vs Player tab, Battleground Blitz, join as a single player from the group finder.
  • Roles: you sign up on your current spec and the matchmaker balances healers against damage on both sides — that role math is the main reason free-form pairs do not slot in.
  • Rating: Blitz carries its own rating and MMR, tracked separately from arena and from 10v10 Rated Battlegrounds.
  • Guaranteed same team: Rated Battlegrounds. You build the group first, then queue as that group.

Can I play Blitz with a friend at all?

Yes, but not as a locked pair. Nothing stops you both hitting the queue at the same moment, and if your ratings sit close you will sometimes drop into the same lobby. The matchmaker still treats you as two independent entries, so you can just as easily end up on opposite sides or in completely different matches.

That is fine for casual sessions on voice comms. It is unreliable if you actually want to coordinate a comp, split flag duty, or run a healer-plus-damage pairing every game.

Why is Blitz solo-queue in the first place?

Two reasons, both structural. Every match needs a workable healer-to-damage split on each of the two teams, and each team of eight is pulled from a rating band. Letting people arrive pre-stacked would distort both at once, and it would stretch queue times while the system waited for a mirror-image group on the other side.

The trade-off is deliberate: fast pops and a rating that reflects your own play, at the cost of picking who stands next to you.

Blitz or Rated Battlegrounds — which should I push?

Push Blitz if you play on your own schedule, have no fixed roster, and want games in minutes rather than assembling ten people. Push RBG if you already have a group, because 10v10 rewards prepared calls, set rotations and real coordination in a way an eight-player pug never will.

Plenty of players run both across a season: Blitz on weeknights for steady rating, RBG when the group is online.

How do I climb Blitz rating without a partner?

Pick one job on each map and actually do it. Blitz is short and decided by objectives, respawn timers and cap pressure — not by damage meters. Chasing kills mid-field is the most common way solo players bleed rating. Use pings and map markers early instead of typing paragraphs, play a spec with enough self-sustain to survive being focused, and treat every death as roughly a lost objective window.

If you would rather have a vetted human pro handle the climb or teach you the map calls directly, PewPewShop runs Battleground Blitz Rating from EUR 25.04, Battleground Blitz Rating Boost for Midnight Season 2 from EUR 60.01, and RBG Rating Carry for Rated Battlegrounds 10v10 from EUR 75.01 — coaching and play-together sessions with experienced PvP players, no bots and no cheats.
