Battleground Blitz is won on objectives, not kills — the team that assigns roles in the first ten seconds usually wins. Lock one flag or orb carrier plus a peeler, move everyone else as one group, and never chase a runner toward their graveyard. It's 8v8 solo queue, so one person freelancing loses the match.
The opening 30 seconds
Blitz games are short and there is no premade voice chat, so the plan has to be typed before the gates drop. Six lines, six seconds:
- Type your job first: "FC" (flag/objective carrier), "D" (defence), or nothing at all — silence means you go mid with the pack.
- One carrier, one peeler. Two people on the objective, six people fighting. Any more on escort and you lose the contested point.
- Move as one group. Two separate three-man packs lose to one eight-man pack every time.
- Mark the enemy healer once and swap onto it when your team has a stun ready — not before.
- Never chase into the enemy graveyard. A kill 30 yards from their spawn is a free respawn for them and a lost objective for you.
- Call incoming with a number. "3 inc mid" is worth more than any damage you do that GCD.
Map-by-map priority
| Map | You win by | First move |
| Warsong Gulch / Twin Peaks | Flag captures | One carrier grabs and routes low; the rest hold mid so the return path is clear. |
| The Battle for Gilneas | Base ticks | Take the two closest bases and defend them. Do not go for the third. |
| Temple of Kotmogu | Orb points | Hold two orbs; points scale up the closer the carrier is to the centre, so push in only with a healer. |
| Silvershard Mines | Cart deliveries | Everyone escorts the cart currently in transit. Kills off the track are worthless. |
| Eye of the Storm | Bases plus flag | Secure two towers first — the flag is a bonus, not the plan. |
New maps rotate into the pool. If you don't know one, default to node logic: hold the majority, defend it, don't chase.
Do kills matter at all in Blitz?
Only as pressure. Killing the enemy healer to break a base defence wins the game; killing a mage kiting you across the map does not. The useful question mid-fight is "does this death move a flag, an orb or a cart?" If the answer is no, disengage and go where the score is.
How do you climb rating when you queue alone?
Pick one spec and stay on it — Blitz rewards knowing your cooldowns cold far more than flexing. Play the role your team lacks in the opening seconds instead of waiting for someone else to volunteer, since the first person to type a plan is usually the one everyone follows.
Then manage your own tilt: two hard losses in a row and your next queue is statistically worse. Take the break.
Which specs are strongest in Blitz?
Mobility and self-sufficiency beat raw damage. A spec with a speed boost, a self-heal and a reliable peel can carry an objective and rescue a carrier — that's two jobs no pure turret can do. Damage meters at the end of a Blitz game correlate poorly with wins.
