  • Rated Arena (2v2 / 3v3) — strong per-game honor plus Conquest, but only if you win consistently. A losing 2v2 night is slower than casual BGs.
  • Epic battlegrounds — big lumps of honor per win, longer games. Good AFK-resistant filler while you wait on queues.
  • Random battlegrounds — the reliable baseline. Wins roughly double a loss, and the first-win-of-the-day bonus is worth grabbing.
  • Weekly PvP quests — the single highest honor-for-time item on the list. Never skip them.

What honor actually buys you

  1. The full honor gear set from the PvP vendor in your faction's main hub — this is how a fresh alt goes from unplayable to competitive in a couple of evenings.
  2. Early upgrade ranks on that gear, so your item level climbs without touching raids or Mythic+.
  3. Trinkets and off-pieces that patch the holes your PvE gear leaves.
  4. Overflow — once honor gear is maxed, extra honor loses value fast. That's the moment to switch focus to Conquest and rating.

How much honor do I need to gear an alt?

Enough for the full set plus early upgrades — realistically a few evenings of steady queueing, or one focused weekend. The important part is that honor gear scales up inside PvP combat, so a fully honor-geared alt is genuinely viable in rated brackets even before you touch Conquest.

Prioritise weapon and trinkets first. Those two slots swing PvP outcomes more than anything else you can buy with honor.

Is honor or Conquest more important?

Honor is the floor, Conquest is the ceiling. Honor gets you to the point where you stop getting globaled; Conquest gear is the higher item level you actually want for pushing rating, and it's capped weekly, so you can't rush it.

Practically: grind honor hard on a fresh character, then never let a weekly Conquest cap go unused. Missing caps costs you more progress than a slow honor week ever will.

Does honor gear work in PvE?

Not well. PvP gear scales to its PvP item level only inside battlegrounds, arenas and war mode combat. Outside that, it sits at its lower base level, so don't plan your raid set around it.

What's the fastest way if I hate losing?

Play with a premade or a coach. Random BG win rates are a coin flip; a coordinated group turns that coin flip into consistent wins, which is where honor rates actually double. One good group night beats three solo nights.
