Holy Paladin is one of the strongest healers you can queue as in Battleground Blitz. The mode is 8v8, solo-queue and objective-driven, and Holy's kit of instant blessings, Divine Steed and short-cooldown defensives is built for exactly that: keeping flag carriers alive, rotating between bases fast and surviving swaps without a dedicated peel. You win Blitz by being where the objective is, and Holy gets there quicker than most healers.

Quick facts: Holy Paladin in Blitz

  • Format: 8v8, rated, solo or duo queue, role selected at queue time. Healers generally get shorter queues than DPS.
  • Maps: the classic battleground pool (Warsong Gulch, Twin Peaks, Arathi Basin, Eye of the Storm, Deepwind Gorge and the rest) with shortened objective timers and a faster pace than casual BGs.
  • Why Holy shines: Divine Steed for rotations, Blessing of Freedom for the flag carrier, Blessing of Sacrifice and Blessing of Protection to absorb a swap, Lay on Hands as an emergency reset, Divine Shield for your own survival.
  • Where it struggles: long-range map control. If your team splits badly you cannot heal across a base, so positioning matters more than throughput.
  • Rating: Blitz has its own rating track, separate from RBG and arena, with its own end-of-season rewards.

Core gameplay priorities

  1. Stick to the objective, not the fight. A flag carrier or a base ticking for your team is worth more than a kill in mid.
  2. Pre-cast Freedom. Give it to the carrier before they engage, not after they are already snared.
  3. Save Blessing of Protection for physical burst. It shuts down a Warrior or Rogue swap outright; using it on a caster target is wasted.
  4. Use Divine Steed to reposition, not to escape. The mount-like sprint lets you reach the next base before the enemy rotation lands.
  5. Track enemy stuns. Blitz is full of uncoordinated players, so most kills come from one stun plus burst. Trinket early rather than late when you are the target.
  6. Call out. Even in solo queue a two-word ping ("incoming farm") wins more matches than perfect healing.

Which hero talents for Holy Paladin in Blitz?

Both Holy hero trees see play. Herald of the Sun leans into stronger Holy Power spending and sustained group healing, which suits base fights where you are stacked. Lightsmith gives you extra utility and self-sufficiency through Holy Armaments, which many players prefer when they expect to be split across objectives and left to survive alone.

If you are unsure, pick the tree you already play in RBG or dungeons. Comfort with your buttons matters more in Blitz than a marginal tuning edge, because matches are short and mistakes compound quickly.

Can a Holy Paladin carry the flag in Blitz?

Yes, situationally. Holy has Divine Shield, Freedom, Steed and self-healing, which makes it a solid emergency carrier when your tank-spec player is dead or absent. It is not the ideal long-term carrier: once Divine Shield and Blessing of Protection are gone you have little left against focused dispels and stuns.

Grab the flag if you are closest, run it toward your team, then hand it off to a proper carrier the moment you can.

What rewards does Blitz rating give?

Blitz rating counts toward the seasonal PvP reward track: honor gear upgrades, conquest, rated tabards, enchant illusions and progress toward the Vicious mount from wins at rating. Tiers and cutoffs are set per season, so check the in-game PvP tab for the exact numbers of the current season rather than trusting an old guide.

Why is my Blitz rating stuck as a healer?

Healers in solo queue depend on teams they cannot pick, so rating swings are normal. Two things reliably help: rotate to the objective faster than the enemy healer, and stop dying to swaps. If you are getting killed in the opening stun each fight, adjust positioning and trinket timing before touching talents.

Getting past the wall

Blitz rating climbs are noisy because you queue with strangers. If you would rather shortcut the grind or learn from someone who already plays the spec at high rating, PewPewShop offers coaching and rent-a-pro help from vetted human players with a long zero-ban record. Battleground Blitz rating help starts from EUR 25.04, and the current Midnight Season 2 rating boost starts from EUR 60.01. Rated Battleground rating help is also available if you want to run the 10v10 format instead.
