Log out inside an inn or a capital city and your character banks rested XP while offline — roughly 5% of a level every eight hours, up to a hard cap of 1.5 levels. Back in game, rested doubles the experience you earn from killing creatures until the blue section of your XP bar is spent. Midnight does not change how it works.
How to bank rested XP, step by step
- Run to the nearest inn or a capital city before you stop playing for the day.
- Watch for the Zzz icon next to your character portrait — that is the game confirming you are in a rest area.
- Log out (or exit to character select) while that icon is showing.
- Come back later and check your XP bar: the lighter blue section on the right is your banked rested pool.
- Spend it on mobs, not on turn-ins — see below.
Quick facts
- Accrual rate: about 5% of your current level every 8 hours offline in a rest area.
- Cap: 1.5 levels of stored rested XP. Once you hit it, extra offline time is wasted.
- Time to fill from empty: roughly 10 days parked in an inn.
- Effect: 200% experience from creature kills until the pool drains.
- Logging out in the open world still accrues rested, but at a fraction of the inn rate — it is not worth skipping the inn for.
- Every character banks its own pool, independently, including alts you have not touched in months.
Does rested XP double quest XP?
No. Rested multiplies experience from killing creatures — it does not touch quest turn-in rewards. That single detail decides how you should spend it.
If you log in with a full blue bar and immediately run a pure quest route, most of that stored XP just sits there. Dungeon trash pulls, dense mob camps and open-world grinding are what actually burn it down at double value.
Where is the best place to log out?
Every inn gives the same rate, so "best" is purely about convenience. Park at the inn closest to where you will start tomorrow, or in a capital hub if you want vendors, bank and auction house within a few steps of your log-in spot.
Do not overthink it. A capital city counts as a rest area on its own — you do not need to be standing inside the inn building itself, only inside the rested zone with the Zzz icon lit.
Does player housing count as a rest area in Midnight?
I can't confirm how Midnight's housing interacts with the rested system, so do not take a guess from anyone as fact. The reliable test is in front of you: stand in the space, look for the Zzz icon by your portrait, and log out only if it is showing.
The same check settles Warband campfires and any other new hub. The icon is the rule; everything else is rumour.
How do I make rested XP actually matter for leveling?
Two habits do most of the work. First, log out in an inn every single session — it costs nothing and compounds. Second, cycle alts: park each one in an inn, and by the time you come back they are all sitting on a full 1.5-level pool waiting to be dumped into dungeon runs.
Because the pool caps, there is no reward for leaving a character parked for a month. Ten days offline maxes it; after that, rotate to another alt.
If you would rather skip the grind entirely, PewPewShop's leveling help is handled by vetted human players — no bots, no cheats — with Power Leveling from EUR 18.4 and Leveling 1–80 by Class from EUR 22.4. Plenty of players just want the pro to handle the climb while they enjoy the endgame; either way, bank your rested before you log off tonight.
