The Hinterlands is entered from Hillsbrad Foothills: follow the road east past Durnholde Keep into the mountain pass on the zone's eastern border, and it drops you out at Aerie Peak. Alliance players grab the flight path right there. Horde players stay on the main road and keep heading east through the zone to Revantusk Village, the Horde outpost on the southeast shore. Either way it is one road with no branches worth worrying about.
Quick facts
- Level range: roughly 40–50; most quests sit in the mid-40s.
- Continent: Eastern Kingdoms, north of Arathi Highlands and east of Hillsbrad Foothills.
- Alliance hub: Aerie Peak (Wildhammer dwarves), western edge of the zone, flight master inside the fortress.
- Horde hub: Revantusk Village (forest trolls), southeast coast, flight master on the docks.
- Second entrance: Plaguemist Ravine in the far northwest corner, a narrow path down from Western Plaguelands.
Step-by-step from Hillsbrad
- Get to Hillsbrad Foothills. Alliance fly or run to Southshore; Horde use Tarren Mill.
- Take the road that runs east past Durnholde Keep (the ruined keep full of Syndicate mobs). Stick to the road and you will not aggro much.
- The road curls northeast into a pass cut between the mountains. There is only one way through, so just keep moving.
- You cross into The Hinterlands and Aerie Peak is immediately on your left. Alliance: walk in, talk to the gryphon master, done.
- Horde: ride on. The road heads east across the whole zone, past the troll ruins, and ends at Revantusk Village on the coast. It is a long ride at level 40 without a mount, so hug the road and skip the Vilebranch camps.
How do I get to The Hinterlands as Horde?
Same pass out of Hillsbrad, then the full ride east. Start at Tarren Mill, follow the road east past Durnholde, through the pass, and keep going. Aerie Peak guards will attack you, so swing south of the fortress when you enter the zone rather than riding through its gate. Revantusk Village has a flight master, an innkeeper and vendors, so once you bind there, coming back is one flight.
If you are already in the Plaguelands, the Plaguemist Ravine path in the northwest works for both factions and saves a detour through Hillsbrad.
Where are the flight paths in The Hinterlands?
Alliance: Aerie Peak, inside the dwarven fortress at the western entrance, connecting toward Ironforge and Southshore. Horde: Revantusk Village on the southeastern beach, linking back to the nearby Horde towns. Neither one is auto-discovered — you have to walk up to the flight master once, which is why the first trip is always on foot.
What level should I be for The Hinterlands?
Aim for 42–45 before you settle in, and expect the eastern side (Jintha'Alor and the troll ruins) to run into the high 40s. The zone is quieter than Stranglethorn or Tanaris at the same level, which makes it a good place to level without constant competition for mobs. Seradane in the north is an outdoor dragon-boss area meant for level-60 groups, so steer clear while questing.
What is worth doing in The Hinterlands?
Both factions have solid quest hubs there, plus the long Jintha'Alor chain that sends you up the troll ziggurat. It is also a strong herbalism and skinning zone, and the wolves and owlbeasts near Aerie Peak are an easy skinning farm. The Horde quests at Revantusk tie into the Zul'Gurub storyline later on.
