Curio upgrade basics

  • Four ranks: every Curio goes Rank 1 → 2 → 3 → 4. Each rank strengthens the same effect; it never changes what the Curio does.
  • Where ranks come from: Delve chests and Bountiful Delve rewards scale with the tier you clear, so pushing tiers is the fastest natural way to find higher-rank versions of a Curio you already own.
  • Undercoin route: the Delve vendor in Dornogal offers Curio rank upgrades for Undercoin, which you collect from Delve chests, Delver's Journey rewards and Delve-related world content. It's the reliable path if the drop you need isn't showing up.
  • Equip it: a higher-rank Curio in your bags does nothing until you slot it. Open the Companion panel, drag the new rank into the slot, and confirm the rank number updated.

Step by step

  1. Level Brann until both Curio slots are open (progress shows on the Companion panel).
  2. Pick one Combat and one Utility Curio that match how you play, for example a healing-focused Combat Curio if you push solo tiers.
  3. Run the highest Delve tier you can clear cleanly, prioritising Bountiful Delves for the extra reward chest.
  4. Bank Undercoin as you go; when a rank drop stalls, buy the next rank from the vendor.
  5. Re-equip after every upgrade and re-check Brann's rank before the next run.

One honest caveat: this describes the companion system as it ran through The War Within. If you are playing the current Midnight season, the companion, Curio list and vendor location may have moved. The loop itself hasn't: clear higher tiers, spend the Delve currency, equip the higher rank.

Do Curio ranks matter for high-tier Delves?

Yes, and more than most players expect. A Rank 4 Combat Curio is the difference between Brann keeping you alive through Tier 8+ boss phases and you kiting a healer-less fight. Utility Curios at Rank 4 also speed up clears by improving loot or survivability, which stacks up when you are farming keys and Undercoin.

Can I upgrade Curios without Undercoin?

You can, but slowly. Drops from higher-tier and Bountiful Delves can hand you a higher rank directly. Undercoin just removes the luck factor. Most players who mix both — push tiers for drops, spend coin when a rank is stuck — hit Rank 4 on their main Curios within a couple of weeks of steady runs.

Which Curios should I upgrade first?

Upgrade the Combat Curio first. It has the largest impact on whether a tier is clearable at all. Then upgrade the Utility Curio you actually use every run rather than spreading Undercoin across several options. Two Rank 4 Curios beat four Rank 2 ones every time.

Does Brann's level affect Curio power?

Brann's level and Curio rank are separate. Levelling Brann unlocks slots and his own abilities; Curio rank only strengthens the equipped Curio's effect. You need both, but if Brann is already high level and runs still feel slow, the Curio rank is usually the missing piece.
