Mining Guide WoW WotLK: 1-450 Fast Leveling

In Wrath of the Lich King, mining caps at 450 (Grand Master), and the fastest route is to power through Classic and Outland ores first, then farm Cobalt in Borean Tundra or Howling Fjord from ~350, move to Saronite at 400, and chase rare Titanium nodes at 450. Mining also grants passive bonus stamina (the Toughness perk), which makes it a favorite pairing for tanks and anyone leveling in the open world.

Mining skill tiers and where to train

Mining uses six skill ranks. You raise your cap by visiting a trainer, then level the skill by mining nodes. Grand Master Mining is trained in Northrend, with trainers at Fizzcrank Airstrip in Borean Tundra and near Valgarde in Howling Fjord.

Fast 1-450 leveling route

1. 1-65 Copper - starting zones for your faction.
2. 65-125 Tin & Silver - mid-level Classic zones.
3. 125-175 Iron & Gold - areas like Arathi Highlands and Hillsbrad.
4. 175-245 Mithril & Truesilver - Badlands, Feralas, Un'Goro.
5. 245-300 Thorium - Un'Goro Crater, Winterspring, Burning Steppes.
6. 300-350 Fel Iron & Adamantite - Hellfire Peninsula, then Nagrand and Netherstorm.
7. 350-400 Cobalt - Borean Tundra and Howling Fjord, the two starter Northrend zones.
8. 400-450 Saronite - spread across Northrend; Sholazar Basin and Zul'Drak have dense clusters.

Titanium nodes require 450 skill and spawn in the highest zones (Icecrown, Storm Peaks, Wintergrasp). They're worth mining for the gold and for Titansteel used in crafting.

What can you smelt in WotLK?

Smelting turns raw ore into bars. In Northrend you unlock Smelt Cobalt at 350, Smelt Saronite at 400, and Smelt Titanium at 450. Titansteel Bars are made by combining Titanium with other materials and have a daily cooldown, so many players stock Titanium early.

Which ores make the most gold?

Saronite is the everyday earner because Northrend crafting eats through it constantly. Titanium is the high-value pull thanks to Titansteel demand, but nodes are rarer and contested. If you want steady income, run circuits through Sholazar Basin and Wintergrasp between other activities.
