Paid services in WoW are the account-level character changes Blizzard sells directly — character transfer, faction change, race change, name change, appearance change, character boost, and character restoration. They are bought in the in-game Shop or on the Battle.net account page and apply instantly to one character. Blizzard does not sell gear, raid clears, Mythic+ keys, PvP rating, or gold.

The paid services list

  • Character Transfer — moves one character to another realm, and in most cases to another account you own.
  • Faction Change — Horde to Alliance or back, with a matching race swap included.
  • Race Change — swaps race within the same faction.
  • Name Change — renames a character; the old name is released.
  • Appearance Change — full barbershop-plus rebuild: face, features, gender.
  • Character Boost — jumps a character to the current expansion's boost level with starter gear. One is included free with each expansion purchase; extras are sold separately.
  • Character Restoration — restores a deleted character. The first attempt in a period is free; further ones may cost.
  • Guild services — guild name change, guild faction change and guild master transfer are sold on the account page, not in the game Shop.

Cosmetics, mounts, pets and transmog sets are also sold in the Shop, but Blizzard classes those as store items rather than paid services.

Where do I actually buy them?

Two places. In-game, open the Shop (the icon on the micro-menu at the bottom of your screen) and pick the Services tab — that covers transfers, faction, race, name, appearance and boosts. For anything tied to a character you cannot log into, or for guild services, use the Battle.net account management page under your WoW profile.

Prices differ by region and are shown at checkout in your local currency. Blizzard runs discounts on services fairly often, usually around expansion launches, so it is worth checking before buying several at once.

What are the restrictions?

Every paid service puts the character on a cooldown before the same service can be used again — typically a few days for transfers and changes. A transferred character loses its guild membership, and mail with attachments does not travel with it, so empty your mailbox first. Auction house listings must be cleared too.

Faction change reduces most of your reputations to a matched standing on the other side, and some faction-specific mounts and titles become unusable. Arena and rated PvP participation can lock transfers during an active season, and characters carrying certain restrictions cannot be moved at all until those clear.

Is buying gold or a raid clear a paid service?

No, and this is where the term gets muddled. Blizzard's paid services are administrative changes to your character. Progression itself — gear, raid kills, Mythic+ keys, PvP rating, titles — is not something Blizzard sells for money. The one official money-to-gold route is the WoW Token, which you buy and sell through the in-game Auction House at a floating price.

Anything else labelled a "paid service" in trade chat or on a website is a third-party offer, not a Blizzard product. Judge those on the reputation of whoever is behind them.

Do I need a subscription to use paid services?

You need an active WoW licence to use the in-game Shop. Some services remain available through the Battle.net account page while your time is lapsed, but the safe assumption is that anything you want to change is easiest to change while subscribed and logged out of that character.
