Quick facts: the Roguefeather Den bug

The issue comes from player reports collected by Wowhead on November 7, 2026. As of that report, Blizzard had not posted a fix or an explanation. The table lists what is affected and what to do about each part.

  • Location: Roguefeather Den, a harpy cave in Thousand Needles.
  • Symptom: the cave behaves as if every layer has been merged into one, so far more players show up than the spawn rate can feed.
  • Official status: player reports only. Blizzard has not confirmed a cause or a fix date.

Why is Roguefeather Den so crowded in WoW: Forever?

The cave appears to be ignoring the normal layer split. Players who would usually be spread across several copies of the world end up fighting over one set of harpies. WoW: Forever has no realms, so it relies on a new layering system to spread players out. When that system misbehaves in a single spot, everyone in the area piles into that spot.

Mob tagging also uses the classic rules. Blizzard has said it will not switch to shared tagging, so only the first player or group to hit a mob gets credit for the kill. In a crowded cave, that turns every named harpy into a race.

How do you complete Test of Endurance in Forever?

Test of Endurance requires you to kill Grenka Bloodscreech in Roguefeather Den and loot her claw. The bug makes Grenka slow to tag because so many players are waiting for her spawn. Once you have the claw, check your quest log. If the objective did not update, log out and back in. That is Wowhead's advice for this bug.

Should you skip the Thousand Needles harpy cave quests for now?

For most players, yes. The harpy cave is a small part of the zone's quests, and each hour you spend waiting there is an hour you could spend on quests that are working. Wowhead's advice is to do these quests later. Once the launch crowd thins out and Blizzard looks at the layering, the cave should become a quick stop again.

If you are a completionist or need the chain for its rewards, go off-peak. Late night and early morning in your region's time zone are the times when the cave is least crowded.

Is Blizzard fixing layering problems in WoW: Forever?

Blizzard has called layering a work in progress and is tuning it in steps. During the beta, Blizzard made forced layer moves much rarer. Blizzard has not commented on Roguefeather Den specifically. Until it does, treat the bug as an open player report.

Respawn rates are a related issue. In the November 2 launch notes, Blizzard said respawns are fastest in the starting zones and slower as you level, and that some competition for spawns is expected while launch crowds are large.

What is the fastest way to handle drop quests in the cave?

Group up. Under Forever's quest-item rules, a player who has gone a long time without a drop is more likely to get the next one, so quest items are shared out more evenly across a group. Drop rates are unchanged, but nobody gets stuck at 2/8 while a groupmate finishes. In a crowded cave like Roguefeather Den, a group of three or four finishes far faster than the same players working alone.

If you would rather have help through the mid-level stretch, PewPewShop's vetted players offer coaching and play-together leveling sessions. They are human players, not bots, and they work around crowded spots like this one.

Frequently asked questions

Where is Roguefeather Den in WoW: Forever?

Roguefeather Den is a harpy cave in Thousand Needles, the canyon zone south of the Barrens. Several Freewind Post quests send you there, including Test of Endurance, Stop the Screeching and Stolen Freewind Supplies. Since launch, players have reported that layering is not working properly inside the cave, which makes it much more crowded than usual.

Why is Test of Endurance not completing after I loot the claw?

Players report that the quest sometimes does not register the claw from Grenka Bloodscreech in WoW: Forever. Wowhead's advice is to relog. Check your quest log first. If the objective still shows as incomplete after you log back in, the claw may not have been looted from a kill your group tagged.

Why do I get silenced by harpies I cannot see?

Players report that the harpies' AoE silence in Roguefeather Den can reach players on other layers. This is part of the same layering bug that crowds the cave. Casters are hit hardest. Keep pulls small and use melee or a wand while you are silenced. If it keeps happening, leave and come back when the cave is quieter.

Does grouping help with crowded quest areas in Forever?

Yes. WoW: Forever keeps classic mob tagging, so only the group that hits first gets credit. One shared group means a single kill counts for everyone. Forever also shares quest-item drops more evenly within a group, so nobody falls far behind on collection quests. To join your leader's layer, click the arrow at the top left of the chat window.
