How to complete The Great Outdoors
The fix takes two chat commands and about a minute of waiting. Wowhead reported this behavior on November 4, 2026, so a later patch may remove the need for it.

- Walk to a campfire in your starting zone and stand beside it.
- Type /sit in chat so your character sits down.
- Type /sit again while still seated. Sit near the campfire should now complete.
- Stay seated and wait a full minute.
- Check your buffs and quest log for Boosted Rest, then hand in the quest.
| Objective | What works | Time needed |
|---|---|---|
| Sit near the campfire | Use /sit while already sitting | A few seconds |
| Gain the Boosted Rest buff | Wait at the campfire until the small Rested XP buff appears | One full minute |
If you would rather spend the early levels with an experienced player beside you, there is a leveling option for that range.

The Sit near the campfire objective does not trigger normally when you first use /sit. Wowhead describes the symptom and the workaround, but no cause is confirmed.
Your character can look correctly seated while the objective stays incomplete. That is the moment to send the second /sit. There is no need to stand up first, because the command has to be used while you are already sitting.
What is the Boosted Rest buff?
Boosted Rest is the camping buff named in the second quest objective, and Wowhead describes the result as a small Rested XP buff after a full minute at the fire. The exact amount is not confirmed, so treat it as a small early bonus and not a major leveling shortcut.
Camping itself goes much further than this tutorial. Blizzard says a campsite can provide rest, vendors, repairs, profession workspaces and one-hour buffs, while crafted camp objects add their own bonuses.

Check two things: that you stayed seated, because moving stands your character up, and that the fire is still burning. If that happens, sit again and give it a fresh full minute.
| What you see | Likely reason | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Seated, objective unchanged | The first /sit did not register | Type /sit again without standing up |
| First objective done, no buff | The full minute has not passed | Stay seated and keep waiting |
| Fire disappeared | Player campfires last 10 minutes, per Blizzard interviews | Find another lit fire and repeat the steps |
| Cannot place your own fire | Fires have a 1-hour cooldown and cannot go in cities or next to another campfire | Use a nearby fire or move away from it |
Sit beside the flames, not inside them. During the beta, campfires stopped damaging characters below level 5 but could still hurt higher-level characters, with reduced damage below 90% health.
Can you skip The Great Outdoors?
Skipping it is a poor idea if you plan to use camps. Per Wowhead's beta coverage, the early quest unlocks the buffs from profession-crafted campsite objects, which were granted after sitting at a player campfire for one minute.
Those object buffs covered useful bonuses on the beta, including Alchemy mana regeneration, Skinning critical strike and Leatherworking rested XP. Exact launch values may differ, but a minute of waiting is a small price for access to the system.
Has the bug been fixed yet?
No fix for The Great Outdoors is confirmed in the launch-day information available on November 5, 2026. If your first /sit completes the objective, the problem has either been corrected or does not affect your attempt.
Either way, the steps are safe to repeat and take almost no time. Launch-week fixes can arrive without much warning, so test a normal sit first and use the second /sit only if the objective stays incomplete.
If you would rather have a vetted player help with your early progression, PewPewShop offers Forever leveling help for levels 1–30 from 42 EUR. For a quest this small, though, two /sit commands and a minute at the fire will do the job.
Frequently asked questions
Why is Sit near the campfire not completing in WoW: Forever?
The objective does not trigger normally on your first /sit. Per Wowhead's launch-day report, typing /sit again while your character is already sitting completes it. The cause has not been confirmed, and a later patch may change the behavior, so test a normal sit first.
How long do you have to sit for Boosted Rest?
Wowhead reports that you get a small Rested XP buff after waiting a full minute at the campfire. Stay seated for the whole minute. Moving stands your character up, so if you move, sit down again and give the fire another full minute.
Where do you get The Great Outdoors quest?
The Great Outdoors is a camping tutorial quest found in the WoW: Forever starting zones. Wowhead's launch report does not list a quest giver for each race, so use your quest log and the markers in your own starting area to find it.
What does The Great Outdoors unlock?
Per Wowhead's beta coverage, the quest unlocks buffs from profession-crafted campsite objects, which players received after sitting at a player campfire for one minute. Examples included Alchemy mana regeneration and Leatherworking rested XP. Exact launch values may differ from what appeared on the beta.
How long does a campfire last in WoW: Forever?
Blizzard interviews described campfires as lasting 10 minutes on a 1-hour cooldown. They cannot be placed in cities or next to another campfire. Camp buffs are separate and described as lasting one hour, while the Pouch of Violet Dust extends camp benefits to two hours.
