The WoW: Forever first week checklist, in order

This checklist runs from first login to level 25, with the two time-limited launch items at the bottom. Forever launched on November 4, 2026, so the dated items are already running.

Common first-week questions

Most first-week regrets in Forever come from ruleset and profession choices, because both are slow to undo. Pace matters less than players expect.

Which ruleset should a new character pick?

Pick Normal if you are unsure, because PvP there happens only by mutual consent. Choose PvP only if you accept world fights at any level, since Blizzard said no low-level protection was planned for PvP rulesets. Roleplay and Roleplay-PvP are also open, and Hardcore follows after launch.

Changing ruleset later needs a character transfer, so settle this before anyone levels. If rulesets showed as unavailable after the queue on launch day, Wowhead's fix was simply to requeue.

How far should you level in the first week?

Level 25 is a sensible first-week target for most players, because it gives your first Legacy point and puts the early dungeons behind you. Blizzard has published no pace target. Boosters quote 2–3 weeks for a full 1–60, so reaching 60 in seven days is not a normal goal.

Blizzard set respawns fastest in starting zones and slower as you level, and it plans to slow low-level zones back once the launch crowd settles. Some spawn contention is expected, so a crowded quest camp is a reason to move on. Questie is on CurseForge if you want map markers for quests not yet in your log.

Which professions should you start in week one?

Start one gathering profession from the early manual and one crafting profession, because crafting pays you twice in Forever. Reaching 150 in a non-gathering primary tradeskill earns a Legacy point, and skill 20 unlocks your first campsite object.

Those objects give one-hour buffs to players at your campfire, so a small group gains from mixed professions. Food is the other easy win. On the beta, food buffs added 5% experience on top of their stats, though not every food had the bonus, and that list can change.

Which dungeons should you run first?

Alliance players should start with Hall of Thanes (13–18), and Horde players with Ruins of Lordaeron (15–20). Each is close to home for its faction, while the other side has to cross hostile territory. Ruins quests all start at level 15 after the launch tuning.

Treat dungeons as a mix with questing. Blizzard's stated view is that dungeons should be worth repeating without grinding them being the optimal way to play. Bring patience to Hall of Thanes, which Blizzard's beta stats listed as the deadliest dungeon.

Excavation Site follows at 24–29. City of Dalaran (28–33) needs an attunement questline, so read its starting quest before you plan a group around it.

What should you spend your first gold on?

Spend your first gold on class training, then save for riding. Training every class ability from 1 to 60 now totals between 206 and 207 gold for every class, so regular trainer stops are an affordable, planned cost.

Per a designer interview reported by Wowhead, riding training costs 100 or 1,000 gold depending on the level, and the first mount itself is free. Blizzard has also said players will earn significantly more gold in Forever than in original Classic. Respecs are a poor place to spend early, since their price climbs quickly.

If your schedule will not cover the early levels, PewPewShop's vetted human players offer coaching and progression help, with Forever Leveling 1–30 at from 42 EUR. Nothing on this checklist requires it.

Frequently asked questions

What should I do first in WoW: Forever?

Choose an Experience Preset, then confirm your ruleset and faction with anyone you plan to play with. Once in the game, equip bags by hand, place new spells on your action bars, and pick up the starting-zone camping quest. These small steps prevent most of the early confusion new characters run into.

Can I change ruleset after creating a WoW: Forever character?

Yes, but switching rulesets needs a character transfer, so it is not a free choice you can undo quickly. Characters can only group, guild, run dungeons and raid within the same ruleset and faction, which makes it worth agreeing with friends before anyone starts leveling.

How do you unlock the Legacy system in WoW: Forever?

You unlock Legacy with your first Legacy Point. For most players that comes from a first character reaching level 25, 150 in a non-gathering primary tradeskill, or exploring the entire world map. Open the panel with the Y key or the shield icon, then spend points separately on each character, up to 16.

When do raids open in WoW: Forever?

Raids are planned to unlock on December 9, 2026. Barrow Deeps, Hyjal Summit and Onyxia's Lair open together for level 60 players. Every Onyxia raider must carry the Drakefire Amulet from a faction attunement questline, so players aiming for that raid should plan for the elite quests and high-level dungeon trips involved.

Does the Classic or Enhanced preset change gameplay in WoW: Forever?

No. Experience presets affect presentation only, such as character models, quest markers, the one-bag setting, transmog and interface layout. Blizzard suggests Enhanced if you are unsure. The choice appears on your first login, and you can change it later under Options in the System section.

Do I need to buy WoW: Forever separately?

No separate game purchase is needed. Access is included with an active World of Warcraft subscription or Game Time, which also covers modern WoW. The Skyborne race and its Zephras Isle start are the exception, because they require the Skyborne Heroic Pack or higher.
