Patch 12.1.5 increases all Subtlety Rogue ability damage by 14%. Blizzard added the change to the 12.1.5 patch notes on October 12, 2026. The developers said it makes up for changes to Subtlety's Shadow damage modifiers, including cases where those modifiers applied more than once. The buff goes live on October 13 in the Americas and on October 14 in Europe.

Is it really a 14% damage increase?
Not exactly. The +14% comes with a fix to how Shadow damage modifiers work. Blizzard says some of those modifiers were applying more than once, so in some setups Subtlety was dealing more damage than intended. The fix removes that bonus damage, and the 14% is meant to make up for it.
Your actual gain depends on how much of your damage relied on the stacked modifiers. Some builds and rotations may end up well ahead, while others may land close to where they were. Blizzard did not publish a net figure, so don't plan around a flat 14% more DPS until logs from the first week of 12.1.5 come in.
What changed for Trickster before 12.1.5?
Trickster already got buffs on the October 6 weekly reset. Fazed went from 5% to 7%, Unseen Blade damage rose by 15%, and a hotfix added 10% to Coup de Grace. Blizzard's posts don't say these will be reverted, so Trickster goes into 12.1.5 with those buffs plus the new 14%.
Does the buff apply to both hero talent trees?
Yes. The patch notes say "all ability damage" for the Subtlety specialization, so it isn't tied to one hero talent tree. The October 6 changes listed above affect only Trickster, though, so Trickster players got two rounds of tuning in one week.
Is Subtlety good for Mythic+ and the new raid?
The buff arrives along with a lot of other 12.1.5 tuning. Several Mythic+ Season 2 dungeons got easier, including Altar of Fangs, The Blinding Vale and Ruby Life Pools. The patch also brings back Keystone Myth at 3600 rating and adds The Unbinding of Kith'ix, a single-boss raid. Boss abilities for Kith'ix are still unknown, so it's too early to rank Subtlety there. Expect your Mythic+ timings to change in the first week either way.
Should I change my talents or gear after the buff?
Not yet. Because the buff partly offsets a modifier fix, simulate your character again once 12.1.5 is live in your region. Don't assume your old priorities still hold. The ranking of stats and talents that relied on the stacked Shadow modifiers could change.
