WoW Midnight Season 2 is already live: it opened with patch 12.1 in the week of 18 August 2026, launching on the Tuesday reset for North America and the Wednesday reset for Europe. It brought the eight-boss raid The Venomous Abyss, the Tidebound Grotto Lair, a fresh Mythic+ rotation and two new Keystone mounts, Breath of Blight and Breath of Ruin.

If you searched for a future date, you missed nothing: there is no separate "Season 2 release" still to come. The season and the patch arrived together, the way Blizzard has handled every Midnight and War Within season so far. Rated PvP, the Mythic+ ladder and the raid all reset on that same week.

Three things matter for most players. First, all Season 1 gear became a stepping stone: the new Mythic 0 baseline of item level 292 is the floor you gear from, and the Venomous Abyss is now the only source of the current tier set. Second, the Mythic+ dungeon pool rotated, so Season 1 routes and pull counts no longer apply. Third, the seasonal rewards rolled over — Season 1's Keystone mount, Calamitous Carrion, is gone for good, replaced by Breath of Blight at 2000 score and Breath of Ruin at 3000.
Crest and upgrade caps also reset with the season, which is why the first three or four weeks feel slow no matter how much you play. That is intended pacing, not a bug.
When does Midnight Season 2 end?
Blizzard has not published an end date, and it rarely does more than a few weeks ahead. Recent seasons have run roughly five to six months, which would put the next rollover somewhere around the start of 2027 — treat that as a planning estimate, not a promise. The practical takeaway: seasonal achievements, the Keystone mounts and the Ahead of the Curve kill for the final Abyss boss are all time-limited, and the ladder gets harder to climb late in a season when the player pool thins out.
Is it too late to start Season 2 now?
No. Three to four weeks in is close to the best time to join: pug groups have learned the fights, the early gearing bottleneck has eased, and there are still months left for Keystone Master. Someone starting fresh today can reasonably expect to be raid-ready within two weekly resets by chaining Mythic 0s, the Tidebound Grotto and the weekly Great Vault.
Did Season 1 raids become worthless?
Not worthless, just niche. The Voidspire, Sporefall and The Dreamrift still drop their transmog sets, mounts and achievements, and the loot is fine for an alt. Groups for them are thinning fast, though, so if you are missing one specific piece from Season 1, sooner is better than later.
If you would rather skip the pug lottery, PewPewShop's vetted human players run the current tier on schedule — Venomous Abyss clears, Mythic+ sessions with a pro group, and Keystone Master progression from EUR 139.99 or Keystone Legend from EUR 489.99, with coaching if you want to learn the routes rather than just collect the score.
