TBC Classic Mount Cost: Every Riding Tier in Gold

In TBC Classic the riding skill is the real cost: 35g at level 30 (60% ground), 600g at level 60 (100% ground), 800g at level 70 for flying, and 5,000g for epic flying. Mount costs by tier

• The riding skill and the mount are two separate purchases. Buy the skill from a riding trainer in your faction's racial capital, then the mount itself from the vendor standing beside them.
• Mount items are the small half of the bill — a handful of gold for your first ground mount, rising to around a hundred for the epic ground and flying tiers.
• Reputation discounts apply at both the trainer and the mount vendor: 5% at honored, 10% at exalted with that city's faction. On Artisan Riding that is hundreds of gold, so check your rep before you hand over 5,000.
• Flying works in Outland only. Buying Expert Riding at 70 does nothing for you in Azeroth.
• Your class's free mount quests (paladin and warlock) cover the mount, not the riding skill — you still pay the trainer.

How much gold do I actually need by level 70?

Roughly 1,500g gets you comfortably through the ground tiers and basic flight: 35g at 30, about 700g for epic ground at 60, and about 900g for Expert Riding plus a flying mount at 70.

Epic flying is the wall. Adding 5,000g on top means most players finish leveling, then spend a stretch of 70 doing dailies, gathering, or running heroics for badges and mats before they can afford it.

Is epic flying worth 5,000 gold?

Yes, if you plan to play the character long-term. Nearly triple flight speed pays itself back across dailies, gathering routes, raid travel and world PvP escapes — the time saved compounds every single day you log in.

If you are still leveling alts or only log in for raid nights, buy Expert Riding at 70 and bank the rest. Regular flying already removes the worst of Outland's terrain.

Can I skip the level 60 epic ground mount?

Many players do. If you hit 60 and expect to reach 70 quickly, saving that 600g toward flying is often the better call — Outland is designed around flight paths and you will replace ground travel within days.

Skip it only if you are genuinely close to 70. Ten more levels at 60% speed is a long, slow grind.

Where do I buy each riding tier?
