The Warglaives of Azzinoth are a pair of legendary one-handed swords (main hand and off hand) that drop from Illidan Stormrage, the final boss of Black Temple. In TBC Anniversary they arrived with Phase 3 on August 27, 2026. Each blade drops separately and rarely. Warriors and rogues are the main users, and wielding both activates the Twin Blades of Azzinoth bonus.
Warglaives of Azzinoth: quick facts
| Source | Illidan Stormrage, last boss of Black Temple (25-player) |
| Items | Warglaive of Azzinoth (main hand) and Warglaive of Azzinoth (off hand), both legendary swords |
| Available since | Phase 3 of TBC Anniversary, August 27, 2026 (Blizzard's announcement) |
| Drop behaviour | Each blade rolls on its own and is not guaranteed. Many guilds kill Illidan for weeks before either one drops |
| Best users | Combat rogues and Fury warriors, who dual wield swords |
| Set bonus | Twin Blades of Azzinoth: bonus attack power against demons and a chance on hit to gain haste, active only while you hold both blades |
How to get the Warglaives, step by step
- Reach level 70 and gear up through the Phase 1 and Phase 2 raids (Karazhan, Gruul, Magtheridon, Serpentshrine Cavern, Tempest Keep).
- Unlock Black Temple. In the original TBC this took the Akama questline that ends with the Medallion of Karabor. Blizzard has not said whether this version keeps or removes attunements.
- Clear Black Temple with a 25-player raid and kill Illidan Stormrage.
- Win the roll or loot council. Your guild's loot system decides who gets each blade, and most guilds plan the pair for one player.
Which classes can use the Warglaives of Azzinoth in TBC?
Only warriors and rogues: in TBC the blades carry a Warrior and Rogue class restriction. Both classes dual wield and get full value from the Twin Blades bonus. Other classes, hunters and paladins included, cannot equip them in this version.
Do you need both glaives?
No. Each blade is a strong weapon on its own. The Twin Blades of Azzinoth bonus only turns on when you hold the main hand and the off hand together, though, so guilds usually give the second blade to whoever already has the first.
Are the Warglaives the best weapons in Phase 3?
For dual-wield melee they are top-tier at this point. That's why the funnel matters so much. Swords from Black Temple and Hyjal can do a similar job while you wait, so don't skip good drops just to hold out for a glaive.
Can you transmog the Illidan glaives later?
TBC Anniversary has no transmogrification. Once you replace the glaives they only sit in your bags as a trophy. The transmog version that retail players chase is a separate item in modern WoW, and it doesn't affect this realm.
If you would rather have a seasoned raider help you through attunements or Black Temple progression, PewPewShop offers TBC Raid Attunements from EUR 20 and TBC Raid Clear runs from EUR 18. These are coaching and play-together sessions with vetted human players. The glaives themselves are a drop and can never be guaranteed.
