Rested XP doubles the experience you earn from killing monsters in WoW Classic. You build it by logging out inside an inn or a capital city, which fills a blue bar under your XP bar. It stores up to a maximum of one and a half levels' worth of bonus. Only mob kills consume it — quest turn-ins award their normal XP and never eat the pool.

Rested XP quick facts

  • What it does: 200% XP from mob kills until the bonus pool runs out.
  • How to earn it: log out (or sit idle) inside an inn or a capital city. This is the fast rate.
  • Anywhere else: you still accumulate rested, just far more slowly — roughly a quarter of the inn rate.
  • Maximum stored: 1.5 levels of bonus XP. Past that, extra offline time is wasted.
  • Where to see it: the blue-tinted segment on your XP bar, plus a small "zzz" icon near your portrait.
  • Does not apply to: quest rewards, exploration XP, or dungeon quest turn-ins.
  • It follows the character, not the account — every alt banks its own pool.

How to actually use it well

  1. Finish your session inside the nearest inn — Goldshire, Razor Hill, Kharanos, Thelsamar, whatever is closest.
  2. Come back and spend the bonus on grinding: mob-dense zones, quest kill objectives, or dungeon trash.
  3. Turn quests in after the rested pool is drained, so you are not "wasting" bonus-free XP time.
  4. Rotate alts. Each character parks its own rested bar, so a second toon is always ready with double XP waiting.

How long does it take to fill the rested bar?

Resting in an inn or city accrues bonus steadily around the clock, so a normal overnight break gives you a meaningful chunk, and a weekend away typically pushes you toward the cap. Once you hit the 1.5-level ceiling it stops — leaving a character parked for two weeks gains nothing over leaving it parked for a few days.

Does rested XP work in dungeons?

Yes, for the kills. Every trash pack and boss you kill while rested pays double, which makes dungeon grinding one of the most efficient ways to burn the pool. The quest rewards you hand in at the end are still normal value.

Is it worth logging out in an inn every time?

Yes — it costs you nothing. There is no downside to ending a session inside an inn instead of in the field, and over a full leveling run the accumulated double-XP kills add up to hours saved. It is the single cheapest leveling optimization in Classic.

Do you lose rested XP if you keep playing?

You spend it, you do not lose it. The bar drains only as you kill things, and it stops draining the moment the pool empties. Nothing expires while you are offline.
