Karazhan opens on launch day of the Burning Crusade Anniversary realms — it is Phase 1 content, together with Gruul's Lair and Magtheridon's Lair, not something held back for a later phase. The only gate is the attunement: each raider needs The Master's Key, which takes a chain through Shadow Labyrinth, Steamvault, Arcatraz and Black Morass at level 70. In practice, the first Kara clears happen the week the first guilds hit 70.
Karazhan on TBC Anniversary: quick facts
- Opens: the same day the TBC Anniversary realms go live (Phase 1). No separate unlock date.
- Size: 10 players, 11 bosses plus Nightbane as an optional summoned boss.
- Reset: weekly, so one full clear per character each week.
- Location: Deadwind Pass, south of Duskwood in the Eastern Kingdoms. Nearest flight paths are Darkshire (Alliance) and Stonard (Horde).
- Entry requirement: The Master's Key. At launch every character in the group needs their own key to zone in.
- Realistic level: 70. The final attunement dungeon, Black Morass, is tuned for a level-70 group.
How long does the Karazhan attunement take?
Plan on one to two evenings if you have a dungeon group ready, longer if you are pugging every step. The chain starts with Archmage Alturus outside the tower in Deadwind Pass, sends you into Shadow Labyrinth for the first key fragment, Steamvault for the second and Arcatraz for the third, then into Black Morass in the Caverns of Time to finish the key. Arcatraz itself needs a key or a Rogue with high Lockpicking, and Black Morass needs the Old Hillsbrad chain done first — that is where most people lose time.
Do the fragments while you are levelling from 68 to 70 anyway; those three dungeons are on the normal levelling path, so nothing is wasted.
Is Karazhan the first raid on TBC Anniversary?
Yes, along with Gruul's Lair (25 players, two bosses) and Magtheridon's Lair (25 players, one boss). All three belong to the launch phase. Serpentshrine Cavern and Tempest Keep come in the next phase, and their attunements run through Karazhan gear anyway, so Kara is the raid your guild lives in for the opening weeks.
Compared with the 2021 TBC Classic launch, the Anniversary realms follow the same content order. If Blizzard adjusts the phase cadence for these realms, that changes when SSC and TK open, not when Karazhan does.
Can you enter Karazhan below level 70?
The tower itself does not check your level, but the key does. You cannot finish The Master's Key without clearing Black Morass, and that dungeon is a level-70 encounter with waves of elites on a timer. A 68 with the first three fragments in the bag is fine; a 68 trying to complete the chain is not. Get to 70, then finish the key.
How much gear do you need for Karazhan at launch?
Less than most people think. Full dungeon blues with a few pre-raid crafted or reputation pieces are enough for the first half of the tower. Attumen, Moroes and Maiden are checks on healing and interrupts, not on item level. The wall for undergeared groups is usually Shade of Aran and Prince Malchezaar, where a couple of heroic-dungeon items and enchants make the difference. The bigger requirement is a group of ten that shows up on time with the key already done.
Getting through Karazhan without the grind
If you would rather skip the fragment runs and the Black Morass timer, PewPewShop's vetted human players can run the Karazhan Attunement from EUR 44 with you, or a full Karazhan Raid Clear from EUR 428.99 where you raid alongside a pro group on your own character. No bots, no cheats, and a long zero-ban record — just experienced TBC raiders who have done this tower a few hundred times.
