In WoW Classic you quest by zone, not by a single hub: each zone covers roughly a ten-level band. Alliance go Elwynn/Dun Morogh/Teldrassil to 10, Westfall or Loch Modan to 20, Redridge, Duskwood and Wetlands to 30; Horde go Durotar/Mulgore/Tirisfal to 10, the Barrens to 20, then Ashenvale, Stonetalon or Hillsbrad to 30. From 30 both factions share Stranglethorn, Desolace, Tanaris, Feralas and the Plaguelands to 60.

The important thing to understand about Classic: no single zone holds enough quests to carry you through its whole band. You will run two zones in parallel from about level 20 onward, hearth between them, and clear out grey-quest hubs before moving on. That is normal, not a sign you are doing it wrong.

- Open your quest log. If most quests are yellow or green, stay put. If they are all green or grey, you have outgrown the zone.
- Check the level of the mobs you are killing. Two or three levels above you is slow and dangerous in Classic; one level below is efficient.
- Move to the next zone in the table above and grab every quest in the first hub before you kill anything, so overlapping kill quests are done in one pass.
- Keep a second zone in reserve. When the main one runs dry, hearth and clear the backup rather than grinding.
Which Classic zones are the best for questing?
The Barrens (Horde, 10-25) and Westfall into Duskwood (Alliance, 10-30) are the densest early routes: many quests share the same mob camps, so you rarely travel for a single objective. In the mid game Stranglethorn Vale is the standout for both factions from 30 to 45, the Nesingwary hunting chains alone are worth a level or two, and Tanaris plus Feralas carry you cleanly through the 40s.
At 50+ Un'Goro Crater, Felwood and Western Plaguelands are the most efficient, with Eastern Plaguelands, Winterspring and Silithus filling the last stretch to 60.
Which zones should I skip?
Darkshore is long on travel and short on rewards for Alliance; Loch Modan and Westfall at the same level are faster. Desolace has good experience but demands a lot of running between hubs. Azshara and Blasted Lands have very few quests for their level and are mostly worth it only for specific class or attunement chains. Silverpine for Horde is fine but thin; most players pair it with the Barrens.
Do I need to do quests to level in Classic?
No, but questing is the most reliable route for solo players. Dungeon grinding is faster with a fixed group, and pure mob grinding works for classes with strong sustained damage like hunters, mages and warlocks. Most efficient levelers mix all three: quest until the log dries up, run a dungeon whose quests are in your log, then move zones.
Where do I quest in Classic Hardcore?
Same zones, different pace. On Hardcore realms you stay two or three levels above your zone's suggested range, avoid contested zones like Stranglethorn until you outlevel them, and skip elite quests unless you have a group. Duskwood and Hillsbrad are notorious for level-band spikes; move through them carefully.
