In Midnight, addons can still restyle and move your entire UI, but they can no longer read combat state to make decisions for you. Blizzard's rule is that addons should no longer give a competitive advantage in combat. Rotation helpers and combat automation lost their purpose. Cooldown tracking, boss warnings, damage meters and audio alerts are now built into the game.
Quick facts: Midnight addon changes
| Still allowed | Changing how the UI looks and where things go: unit and raid frames, nameplates, cast bars, action bars, fonts, positions, sizes and colors. Showing buffs and debuffs. |
| Removed | Reading combat state to drive logic, such as whether a debuff is active, cooldown states, or real-time combat data used to make decisions. |
| Still fully readable | Class secondary resources like Runes and Holy Power. |
| Addon types hit hardest | Rotation helpers and anything that automates combat decisions. |

What Blizzard built into the game instead
- Cooldown Manager: a refined built-in tracker for your abilities.
- Boss Warnings: a Boss Timeline of upcoming boss abilities, plus Minor, Medium and Critical text alerts.
- Damage Meters: tracked server-side, with up to three windows open at once. They cover Damage Done, DPS, Damage Taken, Avoidable Damage Taken, Healing Done, HPS, Interrupts and Dispels.
- Combat Audio Alerts: spoken cues using text-to-speech.
- Assisted Highlight and One-Button Rotation: Blizzard's own option for suggesting your next ability.
- Better raid frames: three layouts and larger dispel indicators.
Do addons still work in Midnight?
Yes. Addons still load and run. What changed is what they're allowed to see during combat. A UI overhaul, a nameplate restyle or a raid frame layout still does its job. An addon whose whole point was reading your cooldowns or a target's debuffs and telling you what to press next can't work the way it used to.
Does my favorite addon (WeakAuras, DBM, Details!, ElvUI) still work?
Blizzard's posts don't name any addon, so they don't tell you whether a given one survived, was rewritten or was dropped. Check the addon's own CurseForge or Wago page for a version marked for Midnight and read its notes. Many authors explain what they had to cut or change. As a rule of thumb, addons that only change how things look should be fine, while the logic-driven parts of combat addons are where you'll see changes.
Can I get banned for using addons in Midnight?
Nothing in Blizzard's addon posts says that using an addon gets an account suspended. The restriction is technical: the game no longer gives addons the combat data they would need for an advantage. Install addons from their official pages, keep them up to date, and you're using the system as intended.
Do I still need a damage meter or boss mod addon?
Less than before. The built-in Damage Meters cover the main numbers, including avoidable damage, interrupts and dispels, and Boss Warnings give you a timeline and graded alerts. Some players still want third-party tools for layout or extra detail. Try the built-in tools for a few runs first, because they may already cover what you need.
If the new UI is costing you progress in Mythic+ or raids, PewPewShop's vetted players offer coaching and play-together sessions for Midnight Season 2 content. They can help you get your setup and your gameplay back up to speed, with no bots or cheats involved.
